gavin.starr
At current I have a brick built single garage that I can fit my supra in with 2 feet of space all the way around the car. The garage has a barn door to the front and an up and over metal door tho the rear that leads out into my back garden. The garage isnt attached to the house at all. What i wanted to do was to extend the garage out to the back by around 3 meters to make a working area when the car is in the garage, My initial plan was to lay a foundation and buy a second hand concrete sectional garage off ebay and key it into the origional brick work of my current garage, But after some thought I think it would look a bit crap (chepest option). Im now thinking about doing the foundation and bricking it up instead of concrete sections, that way it would look uniform to my current garage. I havent done any propper mesurements yet as its still just an idea, but i was wondering about the planning permission side of things. Would i need to apply for planning permision due to the fact that it would be classed as a permenant structure, over the temporary sectional garages. I cant seem to find any concrete (excuse the pun) Information regarding this, and i dont want to ask the council incase they start snooping. Any help would be great. Robzki
I would give the local planning department a ring, they are usually helpful and you don't have to give them your name if you don't want to just to make an initial enquiry. If you do decide to get planning etc you have started on the right footing(excuse the pun).
Spunkmeyer
Hi - in Cheshire you have to submit a planning enquiry for £40 for them to check - they then inform you if it is necessary to submit for full planning permission. Generally advice isn't free any more over the phone, but hopefully this is just the Cheshire money grabbing council, hopefully you may fair better Also online there is a guide on specifics to this type of stuff off the council website. Detached garages may be subject to a size limit compared to overall floor plan of the actual house Even if your council don't have it you can still look on east Cheshire council planning dept website for this doc. Hope it helps (mine was rejected by the way - cos they couldn't decide why category to fit it into!?!! It's a sodding car port with electric front door! Idiots) Cheers
Pixelfill
There are also restrictions on ridge line height at given distance from boundaries - though I'm not certain they apply to garages. Mike
