Holden1989
Hi Guys, Does anyone know of any nice hotels on the Ilse of Wight? Nice hotels as in great views, things to do, luxury rooms etc? I've done a few searches but I would rather go on a personal recommendation. Thanks in Advance

Josh
Ripped Fear would be the man to talk to. Attero and Hammer are also residents of the IOW
Attero
But then again, we may not know as well since we would never get a hotel here. When you thinking of coming down here?

Josh
Ah, would say we should meet up but I'm moving off the island next week. Ah no way, where are you moving to (unless it's highly classified)?
Attero
Ah no way, where are you moving to (unless it's highly classified)? Hampshire, somewhere between Southampton and Winchester. Won't be far from the island. Just have to relocate for my job.

Is the inbreeding on the island just a myth??
Attero
Is the inbreeding on the island just a myth?? I've met a few people who have been with their cousins on the island, but that's as far as I know of any come-close inbreeding, despite the notorious rumours. I hear west-wight is teeming with inbreds. Hammer will know, he lives that side. Also, it tends to be people who were born on the island. So ripped_fear will know that one too. I was born and raised in Hertfordshire.

ripped_fear
Well suppose I should chip in To the op, where abouts where you planning to stay town wise? If you want it peaceful you want West Wight(Yarmouth, freshwater, or maybe down as far as Ventnor), if you fancy looking at the towns/touristy things, which are not up to much any more , Then the east side of the island is best, Shanklin, Sandown or ryde. Newport is the biggest town on the island in the centre and its not big by any stretch of the imagination but I wouldn't want to holiday to there. Also be sure to pm me before you come down and we will have to arrange a little mini meet if you get time. As for inbreeding I have you no luke that my family do not actually originate from this island so you can go do one
Lbm
...the rooms are gorgeous but it looks a little to 'fairy' for me, can a guy stay there and not think he is gay within a few hours? No. I'd probably 'turn' within minutes and start jushing the pillows.
Guest Nancy
Definitely go with the Enchanted Manor, me and lee went there last sept and it was fab. The fairys aren't everyones cup of tea (certainly not mien) but it's different and gives the place that something extra and a nice change to the normal bland hotel rooms. The rooms are lovely, large beds, lush bathrooms and there's a hot-tub in the garden and an added bonus is it's couples only so no screaming kids! The owners rick an maggie are really nice and nothing is too much trouble. Can't rave enough about this place
Hammer
Enchanted Manor is real nice, also The Hambrough in Ventnor and The Priory Bay near Ryde, all a few bob though. The New Holmwood in Cowes is a Best Western so better priced and right on the sea front and the Royal in Ventnor is very nice. Walking on the Island is good, especially over the West Wight. As for the in-breeding, I'm not from the island but let me just say, if you ask for directions here it can get confusing due to the six digits of the locals pointing you in odd directions. Whatever you do I hope you enjoy it and like Jake, me and the misses are happy to meet up for a mini meet if we're about.
Attero
As Hammer said, Priory Bay is supposed to be top notch. Very expensive IIRC though. Get a lot of famous people flying in to stay there often.
Holden1989
Well, were off at the weekend! We've booked into the Lakeside Hotel in Ryde which was recommended by another friend. We looked into places like Priory and the Enchanted Manor but it worked out really expensive and we got the added bonus of a spa day being included at Lakeside with one of the executive suites http://lakesideparkhotel.com/ Now to book a ferry
Attero
Ask Lakeside, they might be able to get you a good deal on your ferry. I book my ferry through a mate who has a deal with them (he's the owner of a hotel). I got a good 36% off. On the other hand, they might not be able to do anything.
