Advice on a new car

The 335i coupe M Sport would be my choice if you can afford to run it. Stunning car and that engine is absolutely outstanding. It's not as cheap as the diesels in terms of MPG, but did win engine of the year ;)

Agreed, although go up one spec and get the Sports Plus which comes with more kit for a very reasonable added premium :)

Lol... Fair play. I'll be heading to the garage tomorrow since I ran out of time today. Hope to test both cars.

Let me know how you get on with the 335i please.

Like I said, I test drove 335d and it was the Touring version. I was absolutely gobsmacked by the power delivery of this thing. It seemed to chew tarmac up underneath the wheels like something out of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Amazing. The thing is I would not choose the 335d over the 330d as marginal difference in performance and not worth the extra cost and economy sacrifice.

Your real decision will be the 335i against the 330d!!

Been through this, 13mpg... No thanks

Ah sorry, forgot the mpg requirement :) I guess if that's the case BMW diesels are the best choice. They seem to make the best diesels. New M5 will come in diesel form as well I think ;)

edit : Diesels if you are doing big miles annually or else I would look at more options such as the new Jaaaaaaag.

Hi Neo

I have the 2010 330d msport convertible which is a fantastic car for performance/handling/mpg and a real head turner with roof down when its sunny. List price with all the goodies was £48k - I paid £40k on finance and after 18 months its now worth around £29k but still owing £30k to bmw finance. I agree with the previous posts look to lease or go pcp but dont buy new. Look at something about a year old when the previous owner has taken the hit particularly as bmw's depreciate approx £500 per month.

Best of luck :innocent:

Priorities changed slightly. I'm going to move house first and then sort out a car. Still selling the supra now but I'll be driving my S-Max until settled in the new house.

If I can find an insurance company who will do a 535d for less than £1000, then that's what I'll get as I refuse to pay £1200 for insurance at 35 with 10 years no claims!

525d or 530d would be the alternatives.

You'll spend £40k on a car but quibble over £200 on insurance?

Aye, it's not the money, I just find £1200 on a car for a 35 year old with 10 years NCB, no points ever, way over the top. Greedy gits.

When I move, it may well come down, we'll see. I'll have a garage in the new house so that may make a difference too.

The whole system is a joke full stop.

Without a doubt!!

Surely you would of both seen it all in the press at the moment and the recent meeting with David Cameron by a number of CEO's (including mine Stephen Lewis @ Zurich) to discuss how we tackle the issue of fraud/staged accidents/uninsured drivers etc. I agree the whole thing is frustrating but the simple fact is insurers have to fund a "pot" to cover losses and injuries from uninsured drivers who collide with honourable motorists and those who also defraud by claiming £5,000 min + for a fake whiplash claim.

It is a joke but ONLY because we have scum in society that scam and collude to take money off us honourable motorists and reputable insurers.

I was shocked how much difference a post code made, I agree with you though.

It is quite a simple fix, though the money cow has been out too long.

We live in a compensation culture like in the states now.

A friend of mine owns a accident management & what they charge to refer the cases is disgusting along with the solicitor costs & £2-3k for each person in the car 'claiming whiplash' which is painful I admit though not £2k worth of pain. They really need to do anyway with this & once they do then we can go back to sensible prices (like that will happen).

Have to agree here... 31 soon with 8 years NCB and the cheapest quote I can get for a Q7 is £1100... no accident no claims... I've tried a posh post code and the price did drop but only slightly... oh well...
