Euro driving holiday.

Hi Folks.

Me and the mrs are looking at goin on a bit of a tour through Europe. I worked on a cruise ship 18 months ago and want to revisit a few of my favourite places.

She wants to go to Paris and Pisa, i want to go to Monaco, Rome and find the Stelvio pass, go to Maranello and Stuttgart, possibly the ring. Been before but might show her the Normandy area as she is quite into history etc.

Anwhere else we could visit from a car point of view, or even from a scenery and history point of view?

Any recommended Euro hotel chains etc, any advice at all, cos its the early planning stage.

I did a similar thing 6 years ago, went to Bruge, Amsterdam, Cologne/Koln, Nurburgring, Paris then home, all in my UK spec Supra

Driving in Paris is a nightmare! Germany is well worth going to for the driving alone.

Also, if you're going to Stelvio, spend a couple of days at Lake Garda (it's only 2-3 hours south), it's stunning

The best thing you can do is make a rough route of places you definately want to see, and then see what's near by :)

Me and a mate were tempted to do that although we were going to drive to Milan and take in more of the countries on the way back and end up in Amsterdam. Driving or travelling holidays have always appealed to me such as a New york to LA sort of thing or Europe like I said before as if planned right it could be great trip while taking in a lot of places. After going to Australia twice before the £800 on plane tickets can help you get a long way away especially when the other person puts in the same as well.

Good luck to you.

When I left to go to Kos (seems like so long ago now), I drove all the way down to Athens. Part of my route took me through Austria and I have to say it was stunning. I also went through Serbia and whilst a bit iffy in places had a region call Sokobanja (sp) that was stunning - oh, and as cheap as chips!

On our annual drive to Romania, we normally do a day trip to Serbia, getting there by driving over the top of the Iron gates hyro power plant dam that spans the danube and doubles up as a frontier between Romania and Serbia, and yes its stunning as CJ says, as is all of that region.

Id love to include Austria, but it might be too much too far in 2 weeks.

Millau Suspension Bridge. Stunning.

Excellent shout, i shall include that one for sure. Is it the one Top Gear went to?
