Hi all,

anyone here using Virgins 50mb XXL fiber package? If so do you have any problems playing any sort of game over Live? over the past month my MW3 and other live gameplay has gone to s**t. Its now proactially uplayable with lag and disconnects near enough every hour from 1 to 10mins.

tried wireless and cable connections, called virgin, no luck.

seriously considering cancelling the service as its clearly not fit for purpose and going back to a normal cable service with Sky.

anyone?

Si

Have tested it with all other wireless devices turned off so just router > xbox. Still the same.

Speed test wise (im at work at the moment) from frequesnt testing it always comes back with at least 46 to 48mb. Same if using a cable connection from router to xbox.

Never had any of these problems on my old BT 10mb line.

thats tonights jobs, tests and moaning at them. Last few tests I noticed that the jitter was higher than usual. What doesnt help is the SuperHub rubbish I have, on my 2nd now and its a nightmare.

Unplug it from the mains and plug it back in a few minutes later, this will force the latest software to be pulled down. R30 I believe.

I wasn't impressed with the superhub. Are you using it wirelessly? If so you need to set up the channel so that it isn't interfering with any other wireless setups in your area. I spent an hour or so setting mine up properly with the best setting combination I could find and it's been fantastic since, the first week we had it we had nothing but issues. I would suggest either doing as I did or dusting off a tried and tested router and using it instead of the built in "superhub".

The actual cable service won't be your issue IMO. The 50mb line doesn't get hit with any of the traffic shaping etc so they won't be capping you. Even if they were the cap for the 50mb line is still a true 10mb or something like that so it won't be the issue.

I have the same as you mate. I blame the SuperHub, its woeful IMO. My Xbox connection was awsome when i had they're 10meg package with a decent modem/router setup. I would get host literally everytime when i played MW2, and i was borderline unkillable lol. I changed over to 20meg and got they're SuperHUb and its been crap ever since. I couldnt even download and surf the internet at the same time when i first got it. I have 30Meg now and its still the same, my connection online is rubbish, i hardly ever host matches now, and when i do it takes a rediculous amount of bullets to kill someone.

Do the ping test, I had problem with VM when BF3 just came out. It took me 2 months and a e-mail to the CEO office to get it sorted. My area is over subscribed and it suffers from "upstream utilization" which basically too many people using internet at the same time and their network cannot cope......

I downgraded to the 10Mb services which use a different part of their network and since then everything is good as it should but I do miss the high speed of 30Mb when it works. I had nightmare with 30mb, speed test always show full speed but in game I get disconnect and "rubber band effect" or Lag. After complaining I got 2 months free.....

I hope they sort it out soon as it is a wide spread problem
