CJ
I am thinking of getting VS type arch extensions for the MR2 and have been told that the front arches are 30mm at widest point and rears are 50mm at widest point. I am assuming that is the distance they will stick out from the body and so my question is; Realistically how big a hub spacer can be fitted to help bring the wheels out to fill the space? I know am I better off not even looking at them and buying proper wheels to fit but the cost may be a tad prohibitive on that score.

Would 50mm spacers put a lot of stress on the bearings? Or am I talking ball cocks again?
marc_p
I think their trying to match the MR2 forum:d Anyway, in regard to the spacers, I wouldn't think running a 50mm spacer on the back would be a huge issue as I'm guessing this car is going to be more about looks that performance (you should see the size of the ones they run on the F355 replicas ). I would make sure you get a billet alluminium made set though.

They would put additional stress on the bearings that is for sure, but unless your running big power this will never be noticeable on a 50mm spacer. CJ
I'm guessing this car is going to be more about looks that performance You obviously dont remember my Orange car then They would put additional stress on the bearings that is for sure, but unless your running big power this will never be noticeable on a 50mm spacer. I'm looking to get around 300bhp. Not huge by the standards on here but I suspect quite hairy in an MR2

You may actually want to PM Hodge as he had some beefy spacers on his old single.
CJ
Nice one - thanks Marc. My other concern is the wheel size. I have acquired a set of rims ready for refurbing but I'm unsure now if they will work with the look of the car. They are 205/40zr17 and 215/45zr17

CJ
Any pics of the new MR2 Col? This is the thread with some pics from the original ad Nic. It is a '97 UK NA. I have also bought an accident damaged Turbo car but dont have pics of that yet. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?261509-Fiesta-failed-the-MOT-time-for-a-change-maybe/page2
add heywood
I ask the same question Colin, as I'm fitting the Ridox arches and dont have the money to buy new wheels as yet. I was told as long as they are hubcentric then they wont be a problem. I have some 50mm hubcentric spacers here that I dont need now (as I need 45mm ones). Let me know if you need them mate

marc_p
Mine will be for an MR2 friend and so I don't think they will be compatible - or are these things universal? Both the Mr2 and Supra are 5x114.3 so there should be no reason why these won't fit, I would get comfirmation on what they are made from though. In response to Add though, if you are 700BHP+ I wouldn't want spacers, I'd be constantly wary.
CJ
Add - can you tell me a bit more about them and the cost please? PM if you wish
Scott
Supra and MR2 wheels are interchangeable. The only thing with the MR2 is that it won't take as wide a wheel right off the bat, with overfenders you could easily stick a 10" wheel under there though. 50mm hubcentric spacers should be TOO much of an issue. They will wear the bearings quicker but you can buy good hubs as cheap as chips now so it's a risk I would be willing to take. Rather than getting 50k out of a bearing you might be down at 30k (just as a comparison). Once everything is on and you're happy just be sure to get the alignment done as the spacers will throw it off. I've got 2 sets of Advans (8.5 & 7 iirc) or a set of OZs (10 & 9) if you are interested

Scott
Thanks for that friend. Can you send me pics and prices on the wheels please and tell me what size they are? The Advans are the ones in my garage. There are 2 options... 1 - The actual ones on the car in my garage. They require a refurb but come with good tyres IIRC (t1-rs) 2 - A freshly refurbed set that are currently sitting in grey primer. Both sets have the centre caps etc. They are the perfect stock MR2 offset so if you got the 50mm spacers they would fit great with the overfenders. I don't have a picture of the OZs but I'll see if I can find one. They were recently refurbished and painted in matt black. They have tyres too but IIRC the rears only have about 1mm of tread left. The OZs are 10" rear and I think either 8.5" or 9.0" front. Perfect stock Supra offset so will be fine on an MR2 with spacers. All wheels are 17" I'll have a think about the prices, not really sure what the going rate is
Scott
This is the OZs
CJ
Thank you friend. So, the Oz wheels are now black? I'll have a think about the prices, not really sure what the going rate is The market is flat. Nobody has money. They can barely give things away and....(plays the cancer card as it is much stronger than the racist one), I am ill and on benefits! They are my winter wheels but I can't see me being out too much in the winter once the single is done. I'm going to get a new set of wheels, hopefully next year, and I'll probably just keep my Jade-r for whatever winter I end up out in. Unfortunately for you I am also rooked and have a credit card that needs paying I'll have a look around and see if I can find out their value.
