caseys
pm'd Ash, As per our conversation by PM, knowing that this wanted AD is off the tail end of a dispute you have with a club member I'd like to verify a few points. For the forum/nosey to know - Ash has contacted me via PM saying the person who's buying him the brakes is transferring the money on Friday to pay me for these - I'd like you both to hold your horses on that first, you haven't even seen these calipers. Why? Read on.. Detail - I have a pair of UK front calipers sat surplus to requirements, that came off my UK spec car where braking felt a little spongy, I at the same time left the CW Fast pads in them and swapped in new OEM calipers with OEM pads, Goodrich lines and also a flush and change of motel RBF600 and that cured my spongy braking. I can't rule out which cured the spongy feeling. I even put up a thread asking others for details to isolate my problem listed here :http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?253526-Soft-brake-feel-causes&highlight=caliper+refurb In light of this, I put the old calipers in storage to refurb them sometime and to have as spares or sell on. I haven't had a detailed look at the calipers and I left the pads, pins, shims, clips all in situ. I would say at the least they need the seals refurbed which you can buy from Toyota or OEM vendors or even CW (£33), they could need a piston (£20/each) or two refurbed if the dust seals have gone and any material has pitted any pistons. I cannot say to what amount of work they may need, they were *functional* when on my car and braked reasonably, but not as good as the brand new ones I replaced them with. They have also been painted in red caliper paint by the car's prior owner - I also believe that these calipers are the original ones from the car from new (L-Reg) I offered these to Ash at £100 excluding the pads, £120 inc the pads (less than 40% worn I estimated). No disks are provided. I am happy to get them out of storage on Saturday, take you some photos, take off the pads and take photos of the seals/piston areas too, I would rather you hold off getting payment off the chap you're in dispute with, as whilst these work, I do not recommend you would put these on the car straight away but refurb first. Right now I don't have the time to do this, hence why they're in storage in my lockup. If in the mean time, you find a better deal you're more tempted to go with (like DanDan's offer) please go ahead with that - I've probably offered you the cheapest pair of calipers so far, but they're cheap because I cannot definitively state right now what's needed to get them back up to near 100% performance. Sorry for the waffle, but I just wanted to be open and honest and make sure you know what you're getting from the start if you bought these off me. Dnk
Good post If there 18 years old then at the very least they will need the outer seals replacing and possibly a piston or two. Definitely a wise move to strip and rebuild them

Dnk
why would it cost so much? thats stupid i dont know how they can charge so much for a bit of rubber and metal LOL The seal kits are quite cheap at approx £35 to do both front calipers, each piston is approx £20 and theres 8 of them !! Also if you've not done this before and aren't mechanically minded then you really need to get someone who knows what their doing to strip and rebuild them. caseys
LOL The seal kits are quite cheap at approx £35 to do both front calipers, each piston is approx £20 and theres 8 of them !! Also if you've not done this before and aren't mechanically minded then you really need to get someone who knows what their doing to strip and rebuild them. Dnk has hit the nail on the head here. They need a refurb of seals at the very least, as said previously I haven't taken them apart so do not know how many (if any at all) pistons or other parts you'd require to get the calipers I have back to top condition. There are 4 pistons per caliper, they're £20 each from Chris Wilson. You may get away with none, or all 8 could be required. I haven't had, nor have the time yet to pull these apart nor have currently so I don't know piston wise what they need and it's hard to see pitted pistons without taking the whole caliper apart. I offered you these as you seem to be a chap in a bind - I didn't have them up for sale at all - so please make sure you understand what i've posted in #34. You will need a reasonable amount of tools and time to do a caliper refurb if it includes pistons. Also you know this is just calipers and pads yes? And that these require the bigger sized discs as well to go with them? I don't have any discs available to go with these. As said I will pull these out of storage on Saturday, may be able to take pads and such off and do you some pics of shims/clips/seal areas in this thread. You checked with DanDan the condition of his and how much he'd want for them?

caseys
Ash, Really sorry I have taken so long to get back to you - new job, house and baby all going on this month...! Here are some pics of the calipers, I haven't had a chance to take them apart. As said they were functional when on the car, but felt like they needed a refurb. As you can see there's plenty of meat left on the pads, CW Fast Road pads, also have a set of pins. They were wearing the discs very evenly when we removed them. I don't have the time to take them apart to see what refurb work is needed, it's taken me 6 weeks to get them out of storage and photo them! Sorry chap. I only dug these out as said previously solely because of your issues - I was saving them to do a refurb when I had the time (maybe 2014? ) Excuse the red caliper paint, that was prior owner's! If you want these, £75 + P&P to you inc the pads. I hope that'd leave you enough money for any bits for the refurb. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7195/7029261601_f77b216094_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7037/7029261953_5cb90cffbc_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7067/7029262843_29af20f5b1_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7060/6883162914_bfc7186167_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7057/7029264021_bea9c706e3_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7267/6883162604_979686e4c4_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7186/6883163982_5d6f8c8856_b.jpg http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6233/7029263211_bb0edb1d05_b.jpg Anyone else on this thread who has a little more expertise on calipers than I do please feel free to chip in with a valued opinion - I'm a user not an expert when it comes to brakes I would hope this would seem a fair price for a set of UK calipers + CW pads which need some TLC.
