how to remove drivers seat when its jammed

I decided to get a new stereo on sunday when mine packed in, foolishly i went to halfords for a cheap one and got them to fit it, took over an hour but the big lump who fitted it pushed my seat right back and jammed it, its as far back as itll go and wont move either way. The motors still working but seems to be jammed on the left. Theyve taken it to their auto repair centre but no one has a clue how to fix it, or even get to the bolts to remove it. Todays update was we need authorisation from head office to maybe cut the frame to get it out then replace it, my words were wtf i dont think so, told them to remove front bolts to maybe lift it up enough to get the back bolts. So help someone please before the halfrauds dipshits hack up my car, can you manually move it without damaging the motor or cogs thanks in advance.

Thanks so the garage tryed that today moved about 3 inches forward sounded like its came off the rails cos the motors still working but not moving and the bolts came off the thread so wont go any further, the good news is the manager of halfords has basically admitted their auto repair centre is crap and told me to take my car out and go wherever i want who knows what their doing and theyll pay. So a weeks been wasted for nothing when i couldve had it into my first choice of garage and been fixed by now.

lol exactly was watching the guy when he was doing it told it had to be equally he was old and said youd have to be pretty good to do them both at the same time, the left inside threads still there the right side has vanished somewhere, so how do i fix the problem or will i just leave it to someone who knows what their doing. The choices are my mates garage whos an auto sparky or a polish garage in dundee who knows supras inside out whos built a 750 bhp drift car.

LOL you have to laugh at Halfrauds.

My headlight bulb decided to go pop,.. so called in on the way home tonight.

It was dark and I didn't have a torch, so I asked if i could move my car into the garage to swap the bulb myself.

Just finding the keys to open the garage door was a mission.

should have been a 2 minute job,... but I found the replacement bulb was naff too.

Told the guy in the shop who was determined to prove me wrong.

Have you checked the fuse. "Yes" i said. Have you touched the bulb with your hand as that can damaged the filament "No" i said *yawn*

"Let me try" he says,.... 5 minutes later and,...

Broken 15amp fuse.

Snapped the retaining bar on the headlight

Dropped the rubber grommet into the engine bay,... which i can find now as its too dark

And burnt his fingers trying to get the other sides bulb out to compare pattern.

After that, he said,.... "looks like the bulb is screwed. Go and swap it for another and it should fine"...

wow. Those boys really know there stuff.

This is my original thread. In the end I put the nut back on the thread and tightened it up so that the seat started going backwards. I then bashed the crap out of the end of the thread and mushroomed it over. I then turned the nut the other way and the seat came forward. Once forward I undid the bolts holding the seat in at the back to get the seat out. This is presuming that you have already undone the ones at the front that you can already get at.

To save the bashing it would probably be better to use a 2nd nut with the same thread to lock the 1st in place.... if there's enough to get a couple of threads on the end that is.

You can't get two nuts on there mate. It's the first thing I considered.

You may get the second nut on half a thread is anything.

Probably no use in this situation but if you ever need to do it again...

Get a nut machined flush into the thread, the chamfered edge stops you from getting the most out of it. I've done this sort of thing before when struggling to get a bite on something.

I found that bashing the kack out of it worked better than any well engineered solution....:D

The seat was out within minutes.

My seat is like this also. I put it right back so i could do some work on the dash, tried to move it back forward again and only one side moves. I wound the seat forward using the two nuts thinking that would sort it, but even coming forward 3 inches didnt make any difference, it still only moves on one side. I've had a good look underneath and it appears to be on the rail. I've been meaning to get round to fixing it for ages :p
