Supra-Brett
Ok, im looking to buy a used Chevrolet Captiva from a main dealer. Its priced at £10995. How much do you recon i can get knocked off? im looking to spend no more than £10,000. I have no idea what margins these companies make, so im really looking for advice on what i can reasonably expect to get knocked off and i know that someone on here will have worked for a main dealer before and have some advice. Paul
Offer them 10K
Gaz6002
Go in at £9.5k and try to meet them at £10k... never give your final budget away straight away. Although if you tell me more about the car I can tell you exactly how much it's worth. I'll need mileage, spec, options, everything you can get. ellis
Agree with Gaz - go in low as its top money plus a bit. Wouldn't pay over £10K. Be prepared to walk away and let them chase. Are you a cash buyer? If so, at this time of year, they should be snatching your hand off for a sale.
Havard
I always work on at least 10% off the asked for price but in the current climate I would be willing to make them an offer and let them think about it. H.
Supra-Brett
Yes have money in the bank, so no faffing about. What`s the best way to pay? ive only ever bought on finance before so ive no idea. Carrying cash is obviously not an option. Im assuming its a switch/visa transaction? Supra-Brett
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3526565.htm That`s looks a clean car but its only the LT model (not LTX) so it doesn't have all the toys like leather seats, parking sensors etc (and im down south so Rotherham is a mega long drive)
Gaz6002
That seems very cheap mate. Franchised dealer price is £12,900! An independent dealer should be selling for £12,420, private sale in good condition £11,460 and in poor condition £8,885. The part exchange value is £9,900 so I doubt they'll sell it to you for a £100 profit... but give it a go

Not really the answer i was looking for but I suppose its a good thing that the price is that low to start with. To be honest ive seen lots of others of that spec at the same price but they have always been far oooop north, and the cars down south always seem to fetch loads more. Its a 3Hr round trip to this garage for me so im not certain if its possible to negotiate for main dealer cars over the phone to save a wasted journey? I really don't want to spend more than 10K as I cant afford it, so not keen on a massive wasted round trip
Gaz6002
Difficult one mate... not sure what to suggest. If you really want this particular car then it might be worth a punt. It does sound like a really good deal.
