carlmhtt
I have had my car off the road for over a year. I was wondering about the optimax petrol in the tank. Will it be ok or should I stick a few more litres of fresh stuff in or does it need draining which would be a pain?
Tyson
How much is in the tank? Topping up with new petrol will be fine, think it might run like a pig if you try to run it on just the old fuel though.

Havard
I would say that anything under a quarter would be fine with topping up. It may not even start if the fuel in the pipes is that old. H.
Tyson
Cant remember, i must take a look To drain the tank can't you just run a constant voltage to the pump and take one of the fuel pipes off into a container?
TheTurtleshead
You can bridge two ports on the diagnostic socket(b+ and fp, and turn the ignition on, to make the fuel pump run Then disconnect one of the lines going to the manifold, maybe the one at the fuel filter, (Very easy to get to under the car ) and drain it like that! Lude
i had a car that woudnt start, thaught it maybe down to old petrol (well over a year old) i removed the fuel hose and put into a bottle, just to see if it was flamable. and yes it was (car had injector problem in the end nothing to do with petrol) i would just use the petrol up in there in the form of light journeys, dont give the car the beans til theres fresh stuff in there. Chris Wilson
I have started and run cars on 30 year old petrol that has sat in the tank for that length of time. So long as you don't run under hard boost on the way to fill up it'll be fine. A year old isn't that old, it will just have lost some of its aromatics and have less octane number.
