ellis
The Lanc flies over here quite a bit - stunning sound and awesome to watch. Brave men who flew them too.
j_jza80
You can buy a 1 hour flight in the airworthy Canadian Lancaster, it costs £2.5k but I'm seriously considering it Very few things sound as impressive as 4 x Merlins IMO.
Pulley
When RAF lyneham was active (I live right next to it) we used to get the battle of britian display fly over us all the time, small displays put onfor lyneham The merlin engine sounds amazing Loved it when the vulcan was up here fora while, did some low displays and virtical climbouts Rambleramble ramble, I'm such a nerd for awesomeplanes and choppers
SupraStar 3000
Can only think of one sound better than that of a Lanc with 4x Merlins, and that's the sound of a Mosquito with two screaming Merlins. I dream about one of those things being restored.
j_jza80
If you like screaming Merlins, nothing screams like a P51. BBD before she was tragically lost
SupraStar 3000
That sends goose bumps down my spine. I just love those 'howls' Bringing things to the modern era. Heres the Typhoons war howl. Amazing!!!
SupraStar 3000
slightly different,... I love this clip. What could be more romantic than a row boat, pretty girl on a summers day and lake Windermere,..... Oh, and two Chinooks
tooquicktostop
I was at Southend last year for the Vulcan, goosebumps for the whole display, such an incredible plane, the year before Southend had the Typhoon, that was something very special, its a great air show

j_jza80
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Avspecs-Ltd/133710429995732 sorry. Also, we've got one here at Elvington. It'll never see the air, but will be a ground runner eventually. I'm looking forward to East Kirbys Lancaster becoming airworthy, a 2 ship Lancaster formation with the BBMF lanc will be a sight to behold I was very fortunate when younger to be given a tour of East Kirbys Lanc, it was on the biggest axle stands up could imagine! SupraStar 3000
thanks mate. I'll take a look at the facebook link now. I knew a mossie was being restored in Oz, but lost track of its progress. Never thought to look on facebook Are they still considering to get the second lanc in the sky? I thought the stupid insurance regulations that have/may have, grounded SallyB was also threatening to scupper all other heavy WW2 bombers from flying. I really hope they do! Would love to see two lancs in the sky.

Swampy442
The Griffon powerd Spitfire Rolls Royce have is the best sounding one I've heard so far. I've sat in the Vulcan
SupraStar 3000
Watching Bomber Boys right now. Amazing tele. Should be compulsory viewing in schools. totally agree with that! Never mind those made-up cartoon heros, tv celebrities or overpaid footballers,.... back in the day, heros were born every day at the ring of a scramble bell or shot from a flair gun. Knight and steed soared above our heads, meeting death head-on and staring him in the eye. This was before the playstation generation. No 'game over' animation or 'try again' options for these poor souls. To run out of luck in this era meant certain death in a tangled parachute or burnt alive whilst screaming for mother. Young men doing more in a evening for freedom that todays youth and MP can't even comprehend. I will make sure my kids learn about the brave men and women who really deserve our respect and admiration.
SupraStar 3000
I've sat in the Vulcan Me too. Although the cockpit seems more like a sardine tin with port holes for windows. Very claustrophobic
Swampy442
It's weird ain't it? Such a massive plane yet 2 guys can barely sit side by side lol
SupraStar 3000
very weird. Can't imagine getting out in a hurry for a bail-out. How they fly that thing with very little forward visibility is a miracle too.

jagman
I worked on the lanc many years ago , you had to clamber over a spar half way up to the cockpit along the fuselage , doing this 30 times a day soon became a pain ... I did a bit on the engines too , and a magnificent noise they made even at idle power .
