When RAF lyneham was active (I live right next to it) we used to get the battle of britian display fly over us all the time, small displays put onfor lyneham

The merlin engine sounds amazing

Loved it when the vulcan was up here fora while, did some low displays and virtical climbouts

Rambleramble ramble, I'm such a nerd for awesomeplanes and choppers

Can only think of one sound better than that of a Lanc with 4x Merlins, and that's the sound of a Mosquito with two screaming Merlins.

I dream about one of those things being restored.

You'll like this Facebook page. AVspecs update this site with pictures regularly, so you can see how their mosquito resto is going.

:D sorry.

Also, we've got one here at Elvington. It'll never see the air, but will be a ground runner eventually.

I'm looking forward to East Kirbys Lancaster becoming airworthy, a 2 ship Lancaster formation with the BBMF lanc will be a sight to behold

I was very fortunate when younger to be given a tour of East Kirbys Lanc, it was on the biggest axle stands up could imagine! :D

thanks mate.

I'll take a look at the facebook link now.

I knew a mossie was being restored in Oz, but lost track of its progress. Never thought to look on facebook :)

Are they still considering to get the second lanc in the sky?

I thought the stupid insurance regulations that have/may have, grounded SallyB was also threatening to scupper all other heavy WW2 bombers from flying.

I really hope they do! Would love to see two lancs in the sky.

I was at Southend last year for the Vulcan, goosebumps for the whole display, such an incredible plane, the year before Southend had the Typhoon, that was something very special, its a great air show

When the Vulcan did a display flight over lyneham I was down my stables a mile down theroad from my house in lyneham and was lucky enough to witness an amazing low pass over my field over my head then climb vertical , then later that day returning from an airshow the battle of britian trio did a display over lyneham and a dc3 flew so low I swear bread going to clip our roof lol

Watching Bomber Boys right now. Amazing tele. Should be compulsory viewing in schools.

totally agree with that!

Never mind those made-up cartoon heros, tv celebrities or overpaid footballers,.... back in the day, heros were born every day at the ring of a scramble bell or shot from a flair gun. Knight and steed soared above our heads, meeting death head-on and staring him in the eye.

This was before the playstation generation. No 'game over' animation or 'try again' options for these poor souls.

To run out of luck in this era meant certain death in a tangled parachute or burnt alive whilst screaming for mother.

Young men doing more in a evening for freedom that todays youth and MP can't even comprehend.

I will make sure my kids learn about the brave men and women who really deserve our respect and admiration.
