Kirk
Right I filmed the dog messing around in the snow on my Galaxy S2. The resolution is set to record in 720p but when I play it back on the laptop the video is viewed sideways but when I rotate it the aspect ratio goes to crap and its like looking through a vertical letter box! How do you fix this so it play in full screen the correct way round or am I going to be told its not possible?
sideexitsupra
I have no idea. But just so you are not disappointed. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE

pistonbroke
You've got your phone set to auto rotate so it records in the format to fill the screen the way it's being held. It can be fixed, but the end result will look odd if you force it to fill the screen. The image will look stretched. If you have a widescreen monitor, just turn it sideways to watch it...........HTH
Scott
Which way are you holding the phone when recording? If you want to do it properly you need to hold it landscape.
Kirk
That's probably the issue then. I had it straight up vertical as I didn't think it really mattered.
Scott
That's probably the issue then. I had it straight up vertical as I didn't think it really mattered. Think about it bud. The sensor on the phone doesn't change orientation when you move it. If the sensor is 16:9 (16 across to 9 up) and you turn the sensor through 90 degrees you end up with 9:16 (9 across 16 up). When you then transfer it over to your PC you get a 9:16 video. If you hold it the correct way you get a 16:9 video. HTH
Kirk
True but I would of thought you could change the on the laptop anyway?
Scott
True but I would of thought you could change the on the laptop anyway? No bud. If you take a shot of something in portrait mode, you have 2 options. Crop it or rotate it.... that's it. It's the same with every camera or recording device where the ratio isn't equal, ie 1:1. It's hard to explain in text if you didn't get it from my last example. The sensor is a rectangle, the way you orientate that rectangle defines the way you record. If you record in portrait mode you still have a 16:9 picture, but as it's orientated 90 degrees it becomes a 9:16 picture. Imagine this is what the sensor in your camera sees in both orientations...
