Scott
What's the insurance like on a boat like that? I would imagine it would be pricey.

I have to say those really have road presence! Has to be the SRT though not the diesel.... I've never been in one but heard interior is crap as per usual American cars. Tricky-Ricky
Unfortunately its a diesel ,but the whole point of letting my Skyline go is economy, so the diesel would fit the bill believe it or not, the 3lt diesel is basically Mercedes and makes 218BHP and 374ftlb 7.4 to 60 and gets 34.9 mpg even propelling nearly two tons. Fair enough I know the SRT versions are hot! I guess you need to go for a test drive mate and feel for yourself. I personally think those car have proper road presence! TheTurtleshead
We had a diesel estate version, one of the best cars we ever owned. Dont forget theyre a mercedes e class underneath! We chipped ours, it went like stink and even if you drove like a total twat it returned good MPG Drove across france in it two years ago, did 120 most of the way there and got 25 to the gallon out of it! It was obviously a diesel!

Havard
I think these are a lot of car for the money. If the gearbox is a Merc then it will be good. H.
TheTurtleshead
Slushbox was lovely, suited the car well. Yeh they're a Merc diesel and 5 speed Merc auto I think! Only thing I did'nt like was the DBW throttle, not fast enough to react for me! But I fault all cars with a DBW throttle the same, horrible things
TheTurtleshead
Also, i'd definitley go for the estate version, better looking car imo and a biiig boot! The bentley style stainless mesh grill is a must have option as well, makes the front much better looking!
Abz
Yep Mercedes E Class underpinnings too, you can't go wrong with these. I test drove one of these when they first came out, the 3.0 Petrol version, think it was a V6, made an awesome (though slightly muted) sound on WOT. Did about 600 miles in that car, was heavy on fuel but then I drove the diesel version a couple of years later & that was great too. The seats are lovely, interior is very nice too. It is only the center console bit that looks a little cheap but apart from that the steering wheel, gear lever feels nice & solid and a little Bentley like with the small clock. I really like the dials too, they are like an el-glow version. If you get the sat nav, it does the directions on the dial bit too which is great! If I did a family car, then I'll be getting one of these Think I got a pixelated video of me doing a burnout in one of these ages ago... I'll try find it. Tricky-Ricky
Thanks! its good to have first hand impressions of driving/owning, next step will be to try and find one for sale locally to check it out first hand, the one i have been offered it the saloon and has sat nav blutooth and all the toys, also have the Bentley grill and alloy wheels, bit high on mileage at 90K but thats nothing for a diesel. Interestingly i have had others comment that they are unreliable, and the dash will likely shake loose on the diesel!

Interestingly i have had others comment that they are unreliable, and the dash will likely shake loose on the diesel! Generally they are reliable but like any Mercedes, things will fail... and when they do they cost quite a bit. The first one I drove was brand new, the cabin was nice and tight, quiet too. I used to get picked up by 300c's from work & one chap had 215k on the clock, apart from what felt or sounded like the rear shocks needed replacing it was fine. The chap said as well it is a brilliant car, IRC he said he had the gearbox reconditioned which cost a bit but apart from that, using it as a daily work car it was great. Tricky-Ricky
Have you considered an E39 5 series? The trouble is that the large capacity petrol engine car market is a bit stale, which is why i have it listed on a swap/exchange site, i would prefer a BMW 330d but they don't seem to come up much, so its kind of grab what you can while you can, i am being pushed slightly because my tax, MOT, which i will be doing anyway, but most of all a don't want to re insure and then get stuffed by the insurance company when i change policy. If i do end up doing this i might keep my skyline for a while longer, but i really need to get something more economical, as i pinch the misses car most of the time. Ian C
I like them Get one Tricky! Although the SRT would be spectacular for power and noise, not the best choice for economy I spose, boo.
manny
I've driven a few of these now as I've been thinking of getting the estate version as a daily driver, apart from a few high miler ex rep wagons they all seem too be pretty solid, just need to find a good clean one locally (without the Bentley grille)
manny
v8 would be nice but 3ld is more practical, 3.5petrol is a big no no, which is why they are all cheap
Tricky-Ricky
Yes must admit the Hemi version would be nice, however the diesel version is surprisingly quick by comparison, at less than a second slower to 60, and apparently they can be chipped/tuned to 260bhp and over 400ftlb of torque, which makes for rapid progress, and better fuel consumption, double win in my books:d Its also quirky enough to suite my odd sense of taste, the thought of owning a run of the mill type car after years of owning ott or mad powered Japanese cars was starting to bother me, the 300c would be just far enough away from that:)
