CJ
I sometimes find myself not connectible to certain sites like Leecherslair and it is down to teh Ipv4 address changing on my PC quite randomly. When I then go into my router and change the firewall rules all is well - for a while! Why should this be happening?
Guigsy
depends on your isp. your ip will change every time you connect or restart router probably. unless your on cable. or your particular isp has fixed ip addresses. i was on eclipse and i could select a fixed ip in my online profile. Scott
Who is your provider CJ? What does the IP keep changing to? I'm wondering if your router is setup correctly as your PCs IP shouldn't make any difference, it's the IP of the router that matters, as that's what comes from the modem. The PC will generally be 192.168.x.xxx and it will then connect to the router which will have the ISP defined IP address. As said above some ISPs dish out static IPs, some are dynamic. The Dynamic type only cause any hassle in that each time it changes you will need to log into the sites you mentioned. There should be no hassle other than that though. Restarting the router generally won't make any difference as a static IP is attached to the MAC address of the router/PC.

What happens is that the last number changes from 1 to 2 or 3 and therefore my firewall rules need to be changed to let Utorrent be connectable
Scott
I am with Sky Broadband. What happens is that the last number changes from 1 to 2 or 3 and therefore my firewall rules need to be changed to let Utorrent be connectable Ahh yes, that's easy enough to fix then. It was due to you restarting your router btw as your PC still owned the IP address given to it from the router. I think it keeps it for half an hour or so, so after restarting it your PC gets issued with a new IP in the same range. Anyway..... Right click on your internet icon thing down the bottom right (might be a wireless signal icon might be a TV), click "open network and sharing centre", click "Change adapter settings", right click on your network connection (it will show as being connected), click "Properties", double click where it says "IPv4". Select "Use the following IP", type in an IP outwith the DHCP range (usually 100-150) see my example, type in 255.255.255.0 into the subnet mask if it hasn't put it in for you and then put the IP of your router in the next 3 boxes. Click OK to save everything and then go into your firewall settings and allow port forwarding on your new IP. Example... If the DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150 then use the following.. IP Address - 192.168.1.200 Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1 DNS Server - 192.168.1.1 HTH
