Should rear engine seal be replaced?

I had the pistons and rings replaced on my Is 220d by Lexus about a year ago due to a recall problem with the 220d engine.

I now have a small oil seep fom the rear engine seal ( crank seal).

Now I know you could change the pistons and rings without touching the crank seal but is this good practice or should this have been replaced as part of such a large job?

Just wondering whether this is norml practice or not.

on a recall they will only replace the parts that the vehicle has been called back for, as thats what the manfacturer will pay, anything else will be additional

That sounds about right, if I'm paying then it would be recommended but if they are paying, skip anything they can.
