pjavon Posted February 1, 2012 Share Posted February 1, 2012 My Dpf light came for the second time last night (Octavia Vrs Diesel) so I went for a run and in about 15-20mins it went off but it is a pain in the arse as a change in our circumstances now means the car does a lot of short runs which is obviously not good for any diesel car with a Dpf. I've been reading a LOT about Dpf removals and it 'seems' it's not illegal but unless done right can cause to much smoke and then an MOT failure. Anyone had any experience with doing this, I've phoned a few companies and they all say it's not a problem but they are trying to sell the service so I guess they would:) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

A) just like removing the cat inbetween MOTs, it does render the car an MOT fail which could be picked up ina roadside stop-test, and B) emissions will increase and since you are paying VED for a lower emission rated car than the one you actually own, now you have removed the filter, that is technically fraud/tax evasion. Max Headroom Posted February 1, 2012 Share Posted February 1, 2012 I guess your engine isnt getting to the optimum temperature for self cleaning (short trips) and the filter is clogging up. tbourner Posted February 1, 2012 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Take off the DPF and smash the insides out completely with a large screwdriver, refit and then take it to a mapper to remove the DPF regen cycle and any other reference to the DPF signal - should cost £100 or so in mapping costs (can remap it whilst you're there though). Some engines rely on the back pressure of the DFP and you can cause serious problems removing it. We now clean the DFP with a special solution, as your quite far from me I can give you the details. Just ring them up and they will let you know who does it in your area. In 99% of cases a clean will sort the DPF, but there will be a reason its blocked. It will either be another problem with the vehicle or its just not being driven under the correct conditions to keep it clear. There are additives you can buy that reduce the tempreture of the normal regeneration so if you drive at low speed round towns it will still burn off the soot. I will pm you the details. dude Posted February 1, 2012 Share Posted February 1, 2012 We do this all the time and remove the dpf from the map, Paul is very clever with Diesel remaps which is why we just signed a contract to remap 18,000 vehicles today !!!! And have a meeting with another company who want more than that mapped, Paul writes all the files himself in house and does not buy them in like 99.5% of every other remapper. I can get the internals removed and the plate welded back on and re-mapped by a firm with a very good reputation on the VW/Skoda forums but I don't really want to do that 'just' incase something changes in the future on the MOT's. As my cars an 06 the emissions are 3.0 (would be 1.5 I believe if it was an 08 or newer) and on the last test (december 15th) it was 0.3. The problem with it clogging up now is defiantly the short journeys my Mrs is now doing every week in the car. Come the summer again it won't be as bad as she walks a lot more then but I'm just trying to limit any damage before that.
