Dan_Turism0
Currently trying to decide what's the best method to go about getting boosted , i currently have a 98 SZ-R so have the V161 box so that's one headache I don't need to worry about.....now i'm looking at a few different options on what to do in terms of engine swap or na-t etc etc, my power goal is around 600whp (although i'm not really chasing numbers) just to give you guys a idea I've got a few options and would be interested to see if anyone has done any of them or there thoughts pro's/con's on them 1 - go NA-T on my GE engine but fit forged or TT pistons to lower compression sufficiently to allow for the higher power 2 - i've been offered a 1JZ-GTE engine at a good price, I can then go single turbo....my only gripe about this is there's very few manifold options of decent quality unless I go to the states where again there isn't that many, also iirc I will need to have a custom downpipe as neither 1J or 2J will fit? 3 - Keep my NA block but fit the 2JZ-GTE head and again forged or TT pistons, haven't seen many people go this route I believe there's issues with CPS if I were to go down this road? 4 - spend a little more on a 2JZ-GTE engine and just put a single on and be done with it? Now I know the most straight forward method is option 4 however i'm wondering if for my power goals is it really as cost effective as the other options? I will be doing the majority of the swap myself with the help of a friend so labour costs aren't too much of a issue Interested to hear peoples thoughts and experiences Dan
Thorin
5 - Sell the car and buy a TT that's already been converted to single turbo.

johnny g
Number 4. Buy a TT block, strip it down, inspect and rebuild with ARP rold bolts. Build up the single kit and install.
marc_p
The only logical option out of the ones stated is to put a GTE lump in it, all others will have poorer resale values and limited in terms of how far you want to go.
Rob_Mitchell
But where's the fun in that ? It would saves you a bomb buying one already done. Not good on the wallet and a waste of money if you ever do the sell the car

Nic
Thorin's answer would be the best and least costly route. If you want to keep the car I would do a 2JZ-GTE swap and run it at BPU power levels (380-400hp) for a while before deciding to do a single install. NA to TT is a big step power wise, NA - 600hp is a huge (and expensive) jump.

Given that, the option of selling and buying a ready done single would still be there (fun can be had maintaining and tweaking one) or you could go the next step and single it. johnny g
If you go NA-TT - then get a VVTi engine in there, keep it inline with the year of the car.
