450hp in an MR2? You're a VERY brave man :D

As said they are very very much a drivers car, they are very rewarding to drive but they will snap your neck in 2 if you aren't 100% on the ball when driving the car hard. Catching them when they are out is a bit no-no for the MR2, the trick is not to get it to the point where it steps out.

IMO "BPU" is the limit to have an MR2 at. Around 300-350hp is the maximum I would ever take one to as anything more than that is asking for trouble.

That's just me though :)

The MR2 to this day is one of the most exciting cars I have ever driven.

i would fully agree with you if i had another would not go over the 300 mark. I had a couple of hairy moments and bent rims then decided i wanted to live longer so got rid!!very twitchy as high speeds and once it goes its going!!

Yeah, around 120 the front end feels light which is a strange sensation. It still grips OK but it's unsettling regardless. I topped mine out on the limit in 5th, a verified 162 on my GPS. I'm not sure I would have pulled that though as I was on a downhill stretch of motorway on the M74 :D

As you can see below - i have had the pleasure of owning quite a few of these for quite a lot of years...Absolutely LOVED driving them!! I found them to be sooo responsive to the pedal action....The last one i owned for 5+ years.."MENTAL" is how i would describe her,lol!..Really wanted to keep her as well as the Supra, but couldn't afford the both cars.....If you get a good one you will not regret buying it..Mine used to put a big smile on my face evry time i drove her! :o)

I've just bought 2. A UK spec MK2 rev4 and a Rev2 turbo to use as a donor for an engine swap. I am loving it in NA form as it is nice and responsive and great fun to drive. Mind you, I am looking forward to the extra horses when we swap engines :eyebrows:

It's a shame I sold that 3.4V6 Turbo engine I had for the MR2 mate, you'd have ROARED laughing with that. Was a monster in that car.

It's a Rev2 with nice low miles and history. ;)

amazing little cars, I relly mine mine. Had a few of them one after the other, last 2 were turbos. very responsive, still fast enough to fend off most things and with a decent tyre and suspension setup very gripping and controlable.

In the 3 years of having my last one and doing track days and lot of fast road driving I never felt unerved by the handling. What you have to remember is its a rear wheel drive mid engine car so the handling is going to be different you need to be smooth through the corners, any harsh adjustments they will bit you. Hard.

I think alot of peoples problems with the Mr2s and crashing or the back snapping out is just poor driving or too fast for the conditions, if you go out and drive like a wanger at some point its going to happen.

I would certainly have another one without question.

Mine was a Rev 2, which ohlins adjustable suspension, downpipe, intake, exhaust, Greddy EBC and an ST205 chargecooler conversion which was the best mod I every made. prob running a realistic 270 to 280 but it was very very responsive. On track it was a weapon.

Really miss it. :( sold the car and a month later the guy emailed me saying he had spun it and written it off..... (seems to be a common story....)

I'm looking to get the st205 cc for mine. What exhaust, do and intake did you use? The sort of power you quoted is what I'm aiming for.

Anything 3" is perfect, it's very short so you don't need anymore than that. You will want a 3" decat though, that makes a good difference to the response. As for the intake go with an Apex-i with heat shield, they are fantastic on the MR2.

Totally. The Apex'I intake I had on mine was nice. Rasp'd a little too. I had a TB Developments 3" Downpipe fitted, they're £200 and very well made.

That, with a ST205 and a CT26 at 17psi will be a super responsive street weapon!

It was the Apexi intake, and apexi GT exhaust which was very loud. I bought all the bits myself and fitted them worked out cheaper. got lucky and picked up the core for £60 at the time. What I would say tho is get a decent marine pump, as there is a fair lenght of pipe work needed for under the car. I mounted my pump close to the core in the engine bay. Tried at the front next to the rad, but found it a pain to initally bleed the system. Next to the core worked fine for me.

It was by far the best mod I ever did. Lag was virtually gone, even after hard laps or very hard road driving the top of the core was allways cool. It was very noticable.

Are you installing it yourself? I think I still have the parts list I used along with the toyota parts numbers as well. as mine was a rev 2 version I needed to get the rev 3 throttle body inlet, shorter bolts for that, a new gasket and a throttle cable support.
