hi

i currently have a 1993 mk4 supra N\A, jap import, manual, i went to refurb my headlights only to find my drivers had a crack in the back plastic, so i ordered some more headlights off another member to strip down and use rear plastic of headlight to keep the glass lens on as it looks better and is clear, only to find that the new headlights were slightly different and the lass lens did not fit in the new headlight

can anyone explain what kinds of headlights there are and what i should be looking for please?

Search button is your friend, but there are j-spec lights (plastic), Uk-spec lights (Glass) and facelift lights (plastic), have you got pictures at all? it may help determine exactly which kind of lights you have bought. Your headlights will be pre-facelift i.e. J-spec plastic ones with the Sidelight inside on a little stalk. The facelift headlights have the sidelights in the indicator.

lol, i spent the last hour searching but cant really tell the difference until i see the back, erm my headlights had an extra extra mechanism on the back, wasn't pluged into anything, glass lenses, the side light is inside that stack thin that you mentioned, the inserts were all chrome, and putting my main beam light in gave me some trouble, does any of this help, i would get pictures but its a bit late to strip the headlights off now,

You wont be able to interchange the glass lense with the plastic one, I.e you cant take the broken plastic lense off and put a glass one on there...atleast i dont think so. Looks like you have purchased Uk spec headlights by the looks of things, the ones you bought were glass right?

Lol ok well in either case the glass wont interchange with the plastic and vice versa, you cant swap the lenses around, the backing will be different. My sugguestion is to use either set, you can use the Uk-spec lights (glass) or choose to use j-spec on your car - your choice mate, Uk-spec lights tend to be a bit more expensive than Jspec lights, but facelifts are the most expensive. If it were me i would use the Glass ones...since they are apart you may as well paint the inserts black too
