Post 48 has all the pictures

I know we all like car details and pictures, so here goes. :)

On Thursday I became the proud owner of a 996 Turbo. The last few weeks have been a nightmare and I have had many ups and downs on this adventure but would like to share my story with you guys.

I have looked and tried many 996 Turbos over the last month since selling the supra. All of which were quite frankly dogs. I had a very strict list of wants which included, bassalt black colour, manual transmission, black interior and low mileage which limited my options massively. Initially, I thought they were a bit of a bargain for the money but with these cars, its far from it. I hoped I could pick one up for around 25K but after taking several for PPI's (pre purchase inspections) and doing god knows how many miles all over the country my hopes were dashed. I sunk a good £1000 and many days off work to find out that a sellers "mint" was very different from mine and specialist PPI inspector. Rocking up to buy one of these machines with a good look around could have cost me 10's of thousands and because of the various PPI's done I managed to dodge quite a few bullets.

I resorted to even looking at tiptronic's (which were surprisingly rather good) but I knew full well that I would always have the "its not a manual" at the back of my head. I even went as far as looking at the grey and savannah interiors. I need a slap for even considering them! :D

Tuesday evening I had a call from a fella in north Wales who returned a message I left many days ago. He had just got back in the country after being away for several weeks, and was calling everyone back that had left him a message. I knew I had to move quick to even stand a chance of getting to him before someone else did. Wednesday Morning the PPI was booked in with a localish specialist and 6am Thursday Morning I started the 550 mile round trip.

In short, the car was mint. The seller had spent 13k in the last 18 months of ownership direct with Porsche. I couldn't believe that I had actually found a mint one and the guy was willing to sell it! When the specialist described the car and an "exceptional example of a 996 Turbo" a deal was done :yahoo:

I paid a lot more than I initially set out to pay but to get the right car I never was going to ever find it. There is a lot more to these cars than most think, If you are considering one (I know a few have mentioned them here) do lots and lots of research and take it for a PPI!

Today was the first chance I had to give her a quick wash a grab a quick snap on the ol iphone so apologies for the poor picture.

Spec includes;

2003 Porsche 996 Turbo

Bassalt black

Full black leather interior with optional red stitching

50K miles

Porsche Communication Module

BOSE Sound system

Aluminium pack

Heated seats

Plus a monumental amount of others which are standard on the Turbo Models. She has more buttons than the Supra which I didn't think was possible :D

How does it drive? Its a racing car with everything draped in cow is the only way I can currently describe it. I have only done 300 miles in it (mostly in the dark and rain) so I cant drive it for sh*t :D

Proper pictures when I find the time and daylight :)

Looked long and hard at these a couple of years ago. Beautiful machine but can be silly expensive to run if you buy a lemon.

They are prone to damage to the three intercoolers at the front and it's something the inspector would have looked for first. A lot of these cars are in poor condition now.

Enjoy Daman, glad you paid a bit more for a quality example.
