RedM
Going to get some road tax tomorrow. How much do I pay for a year? Does it matter that a 95 Supra was only registered over here 18 months ago when working out how much to pay? I'm looking at this page on the DVLA site: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/taxation.htm and this section: 'Private Vehicles (registered on or after 1st March 2001)'. Now I'm confused. Would it be wrong to just pay 170 squid and be done with it?
DaveRex
you would need to pay from when you got the car, unless its been sorned your tax reminder says what to pay or else your SORN renewal will have it on
RedM
I only got the car last week so don't have 'my' log book yet nor have I had a reminder. The vehicle has been taxed up until end of this month so not SORN'ed. I have to fill out a V10 to get a tax disc. Can I just put that it's a 3 litre and hand over £170 or do I have to work out the CO2 emission band?
RobSheffield
im pretty sure its worded as 'first registered' which would be 95 wouldnt it

RedM
I'm just going to go with first registered. I'm more worried about the jobsworths at Wakey P.O. saying that I can't do it there and have to go to the DVLA office in Leeds. I've printed out a load of pages from the DVLA site just in case. magicmatty
Last time I got mine, 1st day of the month, drove into town, parked, went in to the Post Office and got road tax, came out, went straight back to car and had a ticket for no Tax. Showed the warden I was only in town to buy it but that wasnt good enough and I had to pay a fine of (I think) £60 S***
RedM
That's harsh.
Class One
You need the slip you get with the car, the new owners supplement of the V5 to get it taxed. The V10 is no longer used. Will also need insurance and MOT cert. From that slip they can work out the tax band.
RedM
V10 no longer used? Why don't the DVLA update their site? I hope the bit about being able to use a cover note still holds true. I can see I'm going to end up at the DVLA with all the bloody traders saying "do you mind if I go before you, I have to get back to work". Grrrr.... Class One
Cover note is no probs. But when I tried to tax my last car without the v5 keepers supplement they wouldn't let me do it a,d the kind old gentleman in my local Post office told me the V10 isn't used anymore. RedM
The lady at the DVLA was the first person to mention V10 to me. Pity I didn't think to ask her my question then. So, I have MOT cert, cover note and the little slip stating I'm the new keeper. Anything else I either don't need or can get from the P.O. Thanks Mr. One!
