SupraD06
Like that, seen a few things like that before, but mainly just the scale of planets. Seems crazy to think thats only as much as we can see, what if everything we know of is just a dot on what realy lies out there.

Morpheus
Cool. Mindblowing stuff. I just wonder how the Universe can be 93 billion light years across when it's only 13-15 billion years old? If the speed of light was the fastest thing and the rate of expansion was at the speed of light, which it isn't supposed to be, it would only be 26-30 billion light years across. Can anyone explain this? The rate of expansion is not supposed to be a constant but ever increasing with distance from the origin or Big Bang event, so it would only ever approach the speed of light. Therefore, the Universe would be somewhat less than 26-30 billion light years across. Obviously I think it's all nonsense but I would, wouldn't I? Attero
"I like to think that whenever I drink water, I drink mickey mouse heads." What amazing little feature. I've always been very interested in the universe. It's interesting to see things in this perspective.
Morpheus
"I like to think that whenever I drink water, I drink mickey mouse heads." What amazing little feature. I've always been very interested in the universe. It's interesting to see things in this perspective. "We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine........." Listen, the greatest thinkers were all mental. Remember, there's a very fine line between genius and madness! On the one hand, it says that the Universe is 14 billion years old. On the other, (at full zoom out), it's estimated at 93 billion light years across but that you couldn't see more than 14 billion light years in any one direction, as that's how old it is. How can it be estimated to be bigger than is possible within it's age? It's either 14 or 93 billion years old. Yet these people claim to be intelligent? They must have completely done away with the Big Bang Theory. That reminds me.......

nige-rz
You see some people strutting around thinking they're important. Kind of puts in perspective just how insignificant everyone is. Amazing find, really enjoyed that.
Morpheus
You see some people strutting around thinking they're important. Kind of puts in perspective just how insignificant everyone is. Why not see it as even more remarkable that we do exist, despite the odds against it? Makes me wonder if it was designed that way...... Think about it; how many events might not have happened that would have prevented our evolution? The two bacteria that turned a different corner and never met. Your own parents meeting each other. All the potential global killing asteroids that never seem to reach us. That we are largely still here despite possessing biological, chemical and nuclear weapons is even more remarkable. Someone's got to be on our side, I reckon.
Scott
14 billion years old and you make it sound like it happened on the first try. The odds on us isn't quite so astronomical when you actually look at the scale involved in the point of this post. For every way that something could go there is another that it could have went. there is no reason to say every eventuality was previously met before we came into being. One thing we are certainly not is a design. We have changed uniquely to adapt to our surroundings. Of course that's not so prudent nowadays but in years gone by our surroundings have massively impacted our evolution, in some ways by our own initiation. If there was a higher being they would be extremely bored by now.

tbourner
I've just started my micro an nano technology course, talking about manipulating individual atoms and all the amazing things we'll be able to do, quite amazing to me that all that is only about a 1/3 the way 'down' on that scale from human size! I watch a documentry once that said it was a theory that just after thebig bang the universe was expanding faster then the speed of light. But that was just a theory. but recently I read somewhere they have now found a atom that moves faster then the speed of light so it goes along way into backing that theory up
