Alfa 156 Opinions

Hi all.

Am thinking of buying this as a cheap but fun car, as I have sold my RX8 to finance new windows for my home;

http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201202440578162/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-to/1000/make/alfa_romeo/page/3/postcode/hr48dw/quicksearch/true/radius/1500?logcode=p

The old guy selling it has owned it for 10 years, (has bought another Alfa), it is very clean, has a huge service file, drives very well, a nice feeling of solidity to it, and 4 new Michelins on it.

Anything to look for on these? One thing I notice the brakes tend to grab, but work extremely well.

And is it a good deal at £600?

Cheers

You could do much worse at £600, great little car but from what I hear they suffer from electrical gremlins.

A colleague of mine who also owns 2 Lancia Delta's mentioned this, he is convinced it is a 'Italian thing' :D

A couple of my friends and my grandad used to have one of these (dont read into the grandad bit too much, he never grew up), they were good, pretty, solid cars, but had electrics based mainly on cheese from what i could work out. The cambelt service is a real killer on them too. For 600 quid you cant go wrong though, go for it!

cheers all . i have decided to do it, as mr clarkson once said "every petrolhead should own one alfa in their life"

That was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the thread. I've never owned one but I have heard of the issues that come along with them. In saying that it looks like an absolute minter for the money.

Rear bushes, alternator, exhaust spider bracket, coil packs and electrics....apart from that they are great !!

& cam belts need to be changed every 36k on the twin sparks & it isn't a cheap job.

166 is a million times better car but is an aquired taste styling wise.
