Just got home after a very long day out and I have to say I am delighted with the new purchase. :nana:

I had bought the car blind and as you well know, there are many people out there who could quite easily make anything sound a lot better than it is but in the case of this seller he was 100% honest.

The bodywork is as good as it looks in the pics (probably better as the red really is a great deep colour) and the inside of the car is spotless too. I picked up all the receipts and service history and you can easily see by looking at them and the condition of the car that it has been well looked after.

And so to the drive home. I had to go from Liverpool to past Chester first to pick up a PC that Josh had bought (another great buy and a bargain) and then back down the M6 to Wales. All the way the car never missed a beat. Very responsive engine if you use the revs and the gearbox is a delight.

As you can tell I I am very pleased indeed. :D

Sounds great Col, really pleased that it went well and is as described. The gear change can be a little stiff but given how short the throw is it's very positive and feels great. I added a short shifter to mine and it just makes the throw silly short, it's great :D

Get the alignment checked out and then take her into the twisties to see what the MR2 is really all about ;)

She is going in for a full service on Wednesday and will also be up on the ramps to look at the underneath inc the links, arb, suspension and general condition.

Need to find somewhere local for the alignment then and to sort out the wheel balance and tracking as she wobbles a bit at 80.

Now have to decide on whether to save for a 3gtse or 3.0l v6 conversion. :D

The 3SGTE is cheap as chips but if you are doing a conversion I would always go for the V6 as you can get similar power with a far better torque curve. Plus the sound etc :D

Woodsport are fantastic at these conversions. If you can get around 300/300 you will have the perfect MR2 setup IMO. Anything more than that and the fun is overtaken by the fear :D

I'm going to ring them next week to have a chat. Could be too expensive for me though as it would take too long to save up and I'm an inpatient blighter! :D

I don't think the V6 engines are expensive either, but obviously there is a bit of work involved. Those guys are a dab hand at it though so if you're ever going to get value for money it'll be through them.

After going through all the "experiments" all those years ago with the single Supra, I don't want to fall into that trap again and so completely agree with you about using a specialist this time.

I was erring towards the 3GTSE as you can normally pick up the whole car (as in a breaker) for cheap money and then (correct me if I am wrong) it is just a case of transplanting the bits. That to me sounds like it could be done by a half decent mechanic as opposed to a specialist and therefore, (in theory anyway), should be cheaper.

That a new engine model CJ? :D

Think outside the box though CJ. You would then be left with a GTE engined N/A which won't be worth a whole lot given the price of genuine tubbys. Not a lot of V6s on the roads ;)
