Sheefa
I know the 335i (petrol) is something special and the 335d was always going to be good. But - the Torque!! Gallons of it flowing with ease at over 400lbft and an absolute monster for an Estate car! I was looking at the 335i or 335d Coupe for a while and then decided against it for a Supra instead, now I'm back to debating what to do. Anyone here own/drive one? Really impressed by the power and ride of the Estate. Lovely kit and an all round beast for eating up the miles.

Josh
Speak to JohnnyG as he owns one IIRC Had a little race a while ago with a 335i and it was quite even up until about 120, then I started edging ahead (mine's running 350bhp).
mwilkinson
I did a course in one of these for a days. I found the low down resonse a little disappointing but at motorway speeds I think it was very impressive. I read awhile back that they are quicker than the M3 between 60-100? I've got the 535d and the X6 both with the same engine model. Awesome. The 535d hit 181k miles today. The X6 is on 34k, both still feel tight and torquey. I have my office based 50 miles from home - and I work onsite a few days a week at various places around the country. The 535d with the remap really was the perfect blend of power vs performance. Abz
I have driven the 335i petrol coupe version and can say it is a brilliant car, though reminds me of the Supra big time in every way. My colleague even said it is a modern day Supra (it is his car).

Sheefa
Ah sh*t! Thanks all and I'm back to square one now! I can have a 335i or 335d Coupe for the price of a Supra (monthly payments of circa £300 in addition to my car allowance) and of course I wouldn't have to pay for any insurance, servicing, parts, tax etc! Plus I would own after 4 years after a lump payment of between £12-£13k. I think I'm going to have another look at this. The performance of the 335d was staggering and the 335i is absolutely amazing from what I hear. Hmmm, 335i Coupe, Sports + Spec with Premium H&K Sound System and Multimedia Upgrade, Sun Protection Glass, Heated Seats and Internet for £850 per month all in (allowance is now £517). Tempting! Sheefa
There twin turbo aswell are they not? I dont think they advertise that part!! Yes, the 335d and 335i 'were' both twin turbo's although I believe the new variant (N55 Engine) is now actually a larger single. Better economy and no loss of power either. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1033297_bmw-unveils-single-turbo-n55-six-cylinder-engine-for-new-5-series-gt
nige-rz
. The 535d hit 181k miles today. Is your car plagued with warning messages on the dash and i-drive?. My daily is a e60 545i, and everytime I turn it on some warning message or another pops up. The latest is a restraints system fault, something to do with a passenger seat airbag sensor. When I enquired at my local dealer, i was quoted in the region of €800-1000 to fix. Honestly I could've bought a car with what I've spent on manitenance. In my eyes it's nearly too clever for its own good, its always warning me about something, and to stop the warning is usually very costly. I don't think I could recommend a friend buy an e60, unless it comes with a comprehensive dealer warrenty, or you enjoy forking out vast amounts of cash to your friendly BMW dealer. Edit: Just to add my car is not a dog, I'm the second owner, and it has full main dealer history and has just hit 90k miles.

The power in the Supra feels much more RAW in the Supra, and that is in a stock Supra. My colleague picked up his car for £19k or close to that with only 40k on the clock, fully loaded, grey with red interior. It is a tough choice, the only difference is the Supra has more road presence.

Abz it's a choice I have been trying to get my head around for 4 months now and I still cannot decide what route to go down! Understand a BPU Supra is quicker and attracts far more (generally positive) attention and I was going to look at a small Single, but all the equipment, servicing and stunning performance of the 335i make this a real world choice. Many call it the 'Thinking Mans M3'. I like that.
jonathanc
I've heard the 335i is highly tuneable. BMW kept the numbers down to give the M3 some leverage
Sheefa
Most BMW engines are, particuarly the Diesels and the 335 is no exception! I've heard of figures of circa 350 from a simple remap. Emaps do one that increases bhp on 335i to 366 and Torque to 470nm. EDIT: They do one for the 335d that increases bhp to 350 and torque to a STAGGERING 700 NM!!!!!!!!! http://www.e-maps.co.uk/products/BMW/3+Series+%28e90%29/

The only equipment the 335i had which I thought was good is the comfort access. My colleague had this & it means you just the key in your pocket & no need to take it out. If it was me, my decision would be, if the car needs to be a daily driver or a lot of miles I'd get the 335i (ditch the run flats though). If the car is to be a weekend toy & occasional use I'd get a single turbo Supra & pocket the difference.
