Scott
http://doublespeed.virginmedia.com/ Sounds good, 30 going to 60, 50 going to 100 etc. I'm already over the moon with my 30Mb connection
johnny g
100Mbit in July. Lovely jubbly.
Scott
100Mb guys are going to 120Mb as that's currently the maximum that Virgin can provide. Almost 15MB/s must be absolutely insane
The-Plethora
Thats pretty decent. I am on their 10mb service currently and wanted to sign up to 30mb recently. I saw the monthly cost which was fine but theres an install cost of well over 100 quid! which is a lot considering it's probably just a modem. Wonder if this is in response to their cock up this week that took most of the country down due to overheating servers in London apparently. Thankfully with phones these days you can use them as an access point so I could get my fix.
johnny g
I think I'll pump for the 120Mbit, if it's available. Just in the process of having the top of the house wired into the network too - along with a hell of a lot more work. So, why not

When going from 10 to 30mb I think it cost me something like £50 as a connection/admin charge. Clearly a load of tosh just to get some money out of you. The offer at the time was the superhub for free though, which is usually £60 or £70 or something like that, hence why you are being quoted over £100. I tried everything to get away from the connection charge but they were having none of it. They gave me the discounted rental for 6 months though, which was nice of them lol. The superhub is an all in one router/modem. Means you can ditch your 2 bits of kit and replace it with the 1. It needs to be fully setup though, selecting the appropraite channels etc, as it really doesnt like interference from neighbours networks etc. Mine kept dropping out till I fully set it up. There have been loads of issues reported over the net but IMO it's from people who don't understand how to set the modems to suit their circumstances. Scott
Virgin Media for me too when Sky contract ends. When I was trying to haggle the connection fee to be waived when going from 10mb to 30mb I decided I was going to threaten to cancel. I went onto the sky website so that I could have some leaverage..... pfft, not a chance. One of the guys in my work pays for all the premium channels on his sky package. The deal he has costs him around £80 per month, he called them up asking about ESPN and they wanted another tenner for it lol. On Virgin if you take the non-premium (no sports or movies) XL package at something like £40ppm total you get ESPN for free. Sky is a bit of a joke with its pricing at the moment, they have nothing to even begin to compete, and that's before mentioning how crap the signal is during a hurricane
Attero
With virginmedia? No, we don't have Virgin here. I used to have Virgin in Farnborough and it was awesome at 25mb.

SupraDan24
I have the 30Meg virgin, download speeds are pretty awesome to be fair, but the Superhub doesnt appear to be very good for gaming. The 10meg i had before with a normal router was alot better. I had to change some of the settings in the Hub when i first got it as well as i couldnt download and browse the internet at the same time. Last night i had to change the Wireless channel as well as none of my computers would connect to the wireless.
Chucky_waR
Got a call from virgin last week about a promotion. Thought it would be one of those calls where you end up paying more but the lady gave me a good deal. I signed up from 10mb to their 30mb and will pay £10 less on my bill... I only have to pay £30 instalation but they sent me a new modem (they call it a SuperHub) that has wireless and four wire ports.. give them a call, you could end up paying less for more.. lol. Sakey
My virgin sucks. It was excellent in Huddersfield but now I'm in Leeds it constantly drops out and have connection speeds less than dial-up. I find using phone 3g is quicker sometimes! Their excuse is its because their is students in the area :/ Hopefully this extra speed might help!

If you're on cable there is definitely something wrong with your setup as the amount of people using it never makes any odds to my speed. If it's the latter then I would leave as the virginmedia.net service has always been useless.
Sakey
Are you on cable or via the phone line? It's through cable. They had trouble connecting to it over the phone and have sent an engineer over who admits that its very slow. He couldn't find any reason for it and said its probably because the students bombard the network.
Abz
Looks like BT are following suite, I am currently on 37MB at the moment and the increase I think it is due in the summer period.
CJ
I just wish we had any cable service where I live. I get a reasonable 16meg line at the minute which is very good for a fixed phone line but would love the speed of cable.

One thing Scott, what's the user interface like with Virgin? Mrs Lbm loves the Sky+ ease of use when watching & recording tv. I like it myself and their android app to remote record has come in handy too btw.

One thing Scott, what's the user interface like with Virgin? Mrs Lbm loves the Sky+ ease of use when watching & recording tv. I like it myself and their android app to remote record has come in handy too btw. I'm on the very basic package with regards to the TV so I don't have the Tivo box. Tivo is meant to be fantastic though, it's massive in America. A really good thing about cable is you can actually record 2 different shows while watching a third live. I might be wrong about this but I think you can also record 3 shows at the one time while watching a 4th that was previously recorded lol. It's all a bit much IMO but I guess it's nice to have regardless. The interface that I have is fine to use, I mainly use the favourites option... where I have all my favourite channels catagorised in the one menu, works a treat. Other than that the channels are all grouped like you would expect. Browse to a channel and you will see the EPG for it, scroll along and press RED to set the show to record.... that's about it really lol. As for the movies, I would rather save the £30, pay £6 to netflix and £5 to love film and have what I want to watch on demand rather than the repeats they show over and over again on the sky channels.
