absz
So the damper has been run loose, and the clamping pressure on the trigger wheel has been lost so it came away from it's boss? I always TIG them together a bit better. Welding is a bit better than the crimping that Toyota use, but they are fine unless the damper comes loose. Let's hope it's not worn the nose of the crank or damaged the damper keyway. Chris i have done a couple of supras now with this fault both single turbos and the crankbolt was tight on both.not sure on the cause but only needed to replace the crank gear.i have tig welded the one for my car just as a safe guard. Guest chris t4
ok thanks for that. well im still in the process of locating all the bits and im thinking that while everything is of i might as well put some alloy cam pulleys on. whifbits seem pretty sorted for supra bits, so ill try that steve guy first and see if he can sort me out a good price. cheers absz
Chris Wilson
Chris i have done a couple of supras now with this fault both single turbos and the crankbolt was tight on both.not sure on the cause but only needed to replace the crank gear.i have tig welded the one for my car just as a safe guard. Maybe the pulley and cam belt drive cog doesn't clamp the star wheel against the crank shoulder, I have never assembled them off the engine to see. If it doesn't that would explain why they can come loose with the damper bolt still tight. I have been TIG welding them onto their hub for years, as a safeguard. 2008 thread :- http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?161424-Crank-Gear-Removal&highlight=trigger+TIG
Guest chris t4
hi lads here is an update on my car,, the car now runs drives as good as before but the red triangle stays on! and there is a noise that seems to come from the front of the motor once the car is put into drive, then when i put into nuetral it goes away (strange) at least its running but i dont like the noise its making. could it be the tensioner worn? oh and now its got blue smoke on start up but only for a couple of seconds,, im not having much luck with it lol

TheTurtleshead
Whats the noise like? I hate to suggest the worst, but crank walk is a possibility if it's only in gear and not neutral, it's more common with autos. Or maybe it's the crank pulley? Thats common as well
mellonman
blue smoke is oil, this can be turbo oil seal or when just on start up is more often to be valve stem seals
