Retaining a number plate question?

Just wondering when you guys put a private plate on your car, Do you retain the original one and pay the fee. Or let it go back in the system and hope no one else buys it when you want to move your private plate to another car?

What are the benefits and concerns in having the original plate put back on/ or not put back on that car when you come to sell it?

Just let it go with the car. Generally they don't get taken and the original will be put on when taking the private plate off, if it isn't it's no problem though as they just issue with another one of the same year.

No concerns whatsoever for me. The registration is just for the car identification, changing that number doesn't change the identification as long as it's done the correct way.

Good question. I've transfered a couple of times and when i've taken my plate off i've got the original one back both times. Same with everyone I've known to do it as well.

Don't think there are any plus/minus points as to what you get back on the car when you remove yours, although a HPI check should show its had different plates on/off.

Thats what i have just been told on the phone. She said 90% of cars have the same ones go back on. If its not available then one from the same year goes back on.

I just wondered if it would put you of buying a car which had a few different number plates.

Nah it shouldn't as they give a DVLA certificate to confirm the plate changes.
