Hypothetical question re. Sky TV subscription

Lets imagine someone has a Sky subscription and has already used a multiroom option at 10.00 pcm on top of their normal subscription. Could they then have another multi room option for a further 10.00pcm?

If so, hypothetically, could they then lend the box and card to a "friend" for them to use on a sky system that is on a constant communal feed into a block of flats and have that friend pay the 10.00? :innocent:

If you are making use of the discounted hardware deals you need to have the second box plugged up to a UK phone line for the first 12 months. If you dont, you will discover that any PPV functions are very short lived, if at all and if the sky subscriber system fails to get a callback after 3 attempts they will first write to you and they also reserve the right to charge you for any hardware/installation subsidies.

If you are still using that same box Col, it must be overdue a forced download by now as there has been several channel map changes since I last did it. Have you lost some of the free channels?

I can hypothetically agree with this, and hypothetically prove this :D

It works anywhere so long as you are in the sky footprint, but there are other factors. PPV will not work (not once the memory on the card is full anyway) and if the sub is still under the interactive discount scheme and you dont use PPV or interactive, sky will send OTA commands to your box to carry out a callback. If 3 consecutive callbacks fail then most likely the contract holder will be contacted, normally by a letter reminding you that it was a condition of the interactive discount deal that you agreed to. Have just asked for clarification on the multi room deal as I am not 100% on what the contract says regarding the length of time the second box needs a connection.

Also, if you use PPV without a telephone connection and you get a message up telling you to call in, dont if you are outside the uk, even on a UK roaming mobile. Get someone in the UK to call in for you with your account credentials to hand. Whilst not trying to suggest a way out of this....I do know of someone who set up a call divert from a ddi on his uk phone system so the cli presented was the one the system was expecting:)

Not had mine plugged in since install 6 months ago. Am I missing out on anything?

if you dont use interactive service then no, they may at some point write to you and remind you that it needs to be connected to a line, but to be honest it would take a lot of resources to enforce this given how many there are not connected to a line which technically should be.

My imaginary friend got hold of his son's Sky viewing card tonight (this is one that is being used as a multi room package already and in a box supplied by Sky) to see if it would work in his old Sky box currently used to watch freeview etc. :innocent:

All worked well and things like Sky1, Sky Sports news etc worked fine and dandy but the subscribed channels like Sky Sports 1 etc do not and an error of "this is the wrong card for this set top box".

Does this mean the extra multi room subscription would have to include a newly supplied box too?

Col, I have just replied to your PM, but no you can use the box you have, it just needs pairing with the card to decode the channels encrypted to the higher level, these being sports and movies.

Would the pairing be done by Sky after the card was delivered? If so, I'm assuming this would have to be done whilst the box is at my friends house?

Yes Col, that is correct. When you get the card it will have some very basic instructions for self install and I think they say it has to be done within 31 days after you have signed for the card, box or both if you decide to get a new box as well.

Thank you my friend. The ex is going to ring today to make an informal enquiry.
