Ailsa's '91 MX5 mk1 - NEW WHEELS!!!

Hi guys, I've not written a post about my car before... so bear with!

It's not a Supra, but hopefully some of you may still be interested to see my pride and joy...here's a few progress pics over the last couple of years. I've got some future plans too and wanted to share them, but the mx5 guys are just not as nice as you lot!

Totally standard when bought in 2000:

Then my mum crashed into the front wing whilst driving my micra...so that was replaced!

Whilst at uni, I made some cosmetic changes:

Hardtop

Private plate

Crystal reflectors

New kickplates

Momo gearstick, gaiter and handbrake,

Footwell lighting/purple door lights

Took it to knockhill a couple of times :) Got overtaken by a lot of Evos. Didn't care.

Being 20 years old, the paint was looking a bit worse for wear, so a trip to premium detailing sorted it out...

image

Stuck some Team Beard stickers on...and messed around with the camera!

Then this happened :-( Some white van man wasn't looking where he was going and then decided he wouldn't own up to it :(

Add to that the fact we also needed a new gearbox, fuel tank and bonnet anyway, so we bought this little MOT fail...

So now the car has a unique paint job! We put the style harness bar and windbreak from the donor car into mine (rude not to!) We threw on some BC Racing coilovers, dropped it down quite a bit and put on neon pink drift wheels...

The boys fitted a jazzy double din stereo with HD DVD/Bluetooth phone/iPod etc

I'd always hated the rear foglight as it makes the rear look untidy (and since it wasn't dead centre, it drove me insane!) so a couple of weekends ago we fitted a Eunos bumper and a front splitter from an Espace...really need the front number plate holes filled in!

I ordered my new wheels today - Rota BM8 15x8s - they should arrive towards the end of Feb, so need to get the arches rolled before then. Then I'm looking for a new exhaust and rails to get the bucket seats in too :)

Hope you enjoyed this photo story - I'll put up some pics of the new wheels when they're fitted!

And finally, to make it a tiny bit Supra related...here's a pic of it next to monsween ;)

Rolled the arches this weekend in advance of the wheels arriving...(and realised I had warped brake discs on the front, so changed them too)

And decided to draw all over the headlights and around the windscreen since she's getting fresh paint soon anyway!

love the artwork. Very unique and shame to paint over. I vote keep it.

btw: Did the paint crack when you rolled the arches yourself?

Thanks very much! It's certainly a good way to cover up 20 year old flaky paint! Might do a couple more panels since it's such good fun!

The boys did a superb job of the arches! The paint is very old, so it did crack a little (a lot on the rusty rear offside!) but they were sealed on the raw inside edge and coated with white no-rust for now until I save up the pennies for the respray!

Desperate to get the new wheels on and the car even lower still.... :-D

All 4 of the arches cracked, one more so than others. Hammerite and silicone sealant on the rolled edge as not to let water sit in it along with a fresh coat of underseal and it'll be pretty fine i hope.

That rolling tool is fantastic! Great bit of kit.

PS, Nice looking car that :)
