Herb
hi folks! I'm looking for a A01B differential for my NA W58 at the moment: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?260562-LSD-A01B-Differential-wanted! I've now got a chance to get the internal part (so the cylindric lsd itself) without the housing pinion etc. just for you understanding I mean a piece like this one (but of course not for the TT as said on that ebay item.) http://www.ebay.at/itm/JDM-Toyota-Supra-MK4-8-7-Torsen-LSD-helical-JZA80-TT-rear-differential-diff-/180786236400?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item2a17b30bf0 I know think that I can swap that into my A01A casing and combine it with my pinion etc. The problem is: the pictured LSD is expensive... But the question is: couldn't I also get a small lsd diff out of a TT far cheaper and combine it with my pinion etc. to get the 4.XX ratio for the NA. I definitely want to keep the OEM NA ratio!! So the question is: if the lsd-part itself different within the small case diffs or is it just the gear and the pinion that is different to get the different ratios?? Hope everybody understands what I mean... I'm a bit a noob on this - sorry Regards, Herbert
Nic
I'm a bit confused what you are wanting, am I right in thinking you want to fit an LSD to your NA but keep the standard NA 4.083 final drive ratio? The final drive ring gear is separate and bolts onto the diff, so you just need to source an LSD to fit your diff casing and swap over the ring gear. http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/695/picture2vt.jpg Your car has the smaller A diff casing, the diff and casing are the same as were fitted to all auto TT's and all facelift (5/96-02) 6spd TT's. The table below lists which models were factory fitted with the stock LSD, the only LSD that won't fit your car is the early model 93-96 6spd TT, which was fitted with the larger B diff. The stock LSD is an improvement over the open diff, but for the best results I would fit an after market LSD such as the 41301-JS402 TRD LSD, see here: http://trdparts.jp/english/parts_lsd_mechanical.html http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/1871/picture1be.jpg Edited January 14, 2012 by Nic (see edit history)

Nic
Can i follow this with.......... Can i put a lsd diff with the casing straight onto my 94 n/a without changing anything The Supra was fitted with 2 diff options, the larger diff B on the left and the smaller diff A on the right. Diff B was only fitted to the early (93-96) 6spd TT, all other models - including your NA - were fitted with smaller diff A, some of these with an open diff some with the torsional LSD, the list above shows which Supras were fitted with which. Provided you source the smaller diff A then yes it'll be a straight swap. http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/2994/supravsoarerex8.jpg

Herb
Thanks for all the information in this thread Nic! Right now I'm thinking about wether upgrading to the stock Torsen diff or the aftermarket TRD diff. I found a pretty good comparison right here http://bananags.grantham-international.com/GS_DIY/LSD/ my concern is the power right now. the car is NA and will stay so. is it true that the clutch type TRD diff will absorb some horses? regards, Herbert
