What to do with my car ?

Hi

Well I got caught out today by my new car ( not used to the power and RWD combination ) and as i came off a round about and round the corner on to a dual carriage way i hit a sign post. Completely my fault. Now the front end has been hit in the middle to about the back of the headlights, i am certain the insurance will write it off.

The question is do i :

Repair the front end ? ( radiators, bonnet, bumper, probably headlights, and the bracing behind it )

OR

Break it for parts ?

its a 1995 Auto RZ-S Supra with a smidge under 100k on the clock.

All opinions welcome, i have learnt a very good lesson today !

If you have the knowledge and time to do most of the work yourself, then the parts you should be able to find here, either through the sale section or the traders like Keron

Glad no one was hurt and it's a real shame to hear it caught you out so quickly, unfortunately you won't be the last to get caught out by the Supra

Breaking is an option, but to be honest it's a pain to do unless you have plenty of time, if your not going to do the repairs, either put it up hear as a crash repairable or speak to Keron

From memory you are not that old, so claiming on your insurance would proberbly be a big no no unless you have to

Good Luck and least you are okay bud

well claiming is my only option as the post i hit had a light on it which subsequently flew off the top ( was attached just slide on top) and hit someones car parked on their drive, so they need new windscreen, drivers window and door frame repaired.

I will have to do some research and way up my options, but any more advise will not go un-listened to ( or unread in this case )

Sorry to hear this :( but it could have been much worse, at least no one was hurt.

You'll get over £3k breaking a stock auto TT, so I'd probably go down that route. Your engine complete with turbos etc will be worth circa £1500 alone.

Repairing this to a good standard will be expensive :(

That is a fair bit of damage. As said see if you can lift the bonnet and take some pics in the day light but to be honest I think that is a right off. Sorry about the car fella esp seeing you haven't had very long but at least you or anyone was not hurt so you can always start again

Not sure i will be able to start again due to insurance premiums being the way they are, plus I'm 23 with no NCB now.

I will take some pics tomorrow if i can get the bonnet open. the one thing I'm reasonably sure about is buying back off the insurer even if i only get my money back on what i paid for it off the insurer.

Ideally winning the lottery in the next week wouldn't go a miss :)

Can you actually buy the car back of the insurance company? I have wrote off a few cars in my time but when trying to buy them back from the insurance company they won't sell them back to me. Or is that just me?

Sorry to hear about this mate, as I spun my MkIII into a barrier coming off a roundabout once on an adverse camber, in the wet with almost slick rear tyres but still legal, on a quiet Sunday morning rushing to clock in at work 26 miles away and knowing that I would only just make it. Luckily it was minor damage and I fixed it. Tough cars them.

I'm glad you're doing the right thing though, re. the other car but see if you can settle that in cash. Legally, of course, you 'have' to 'fess up but it will be expensive for a long time vs. a one-off payment. That is if they don't claim for whiplash, of course!

At least you didn't roll through a brick wall and land in someone's living room on your roof like a guy I worked with once. He was on speed he said, chasing his mate around a corner in an Escort late one evening and he lost control, went through a wall and then literally into the house. He just got out of the upside-down car, right infront of the sofa and said of the damage, "Oh, that'll be ok" etc. and kept talking about how he was going to be a big shot in The City (as he was a stock trader back in the 80's) and the couple who were sitting watching telly just stared at him in shock.

Just incase you need a laugh, no offence guys! :D

I just made the names up and Nigel is the one on the right.

"What was that Nigel? A wounded Zebra?"

"No, 'arry, I said Supra, you Muppet!"

"Right, get the bricks 'arry. I'm 'avin' the wheels and young Trevor can 'ave the stereo. 'e's good wiv electrics, aincha my Son? 'e's got one of those Nundildo Sexboxes."

"Now 'urry up, before those ***kin' pikeys see it. They'll 'ave it stripped bare before you can say caravan."

"I ***kin' 'ate pikeys."

"Shut up 'arry and get that jack ready."
