SupraAyf
You didnt like it? Only had a short drive on a 2008 GTR is was immense but I didn't really like the interior that time. I loved it JC but it was an itch where a 20-minute drive helped get rid of it. Perhaps I'm at that stage in life where I'm not keen on buying something that is worth lots of money one minute and then not so much the next. I'm getting older so that could be my problem. This said, I saw a GTR when I was home in the UK. I pulled up next to it in my truck and the guy winked over thinking that I was checking out his car. I think he became quite perturbed when he realised that I was checking out the Ford Fiesta Titanium with the new body kit; now that's a nice car and it won't lose me money. Not many AWD coupes around tbh and the GTR fits the bill perfectly if not for the (claimed) unusually high running costs.

CJ
There are probably worse ways to blow a lot of money than buying a late GTR on the drip, but for now I am at a loss to think of anything except for perhaps marriage?
grahamc
I wish a 20 minute drive got me over my itch! Would have saved me a load of cash... I bought a brand new 2010 model 6 months ago (took me awhile to find the right one), so its on a 61 plate. I have spent about 4k on the car so far (tracker, carbon wrap of exterior trim, carbon wrap of interior bits, k&n panel filters, ypipe, cobbs, twin rear light kit, full specialist detail and front & rear parking cameras). I have the car booked in for its first "real" service at the end of Feb... So far the insurance was £150 more than my 2002 STi, however my insurance includes 5 track days per year (which the impreza did not have). The servicing is not that bad. Fuel economy is better than the impreza (Im averaging about 20mpg) - you just cant use all the power on the road. 6 months down the line and the novelty has not worn off. I still find it a pleasure to drive, I love going out in it, just lots of attention in the car, lots of people staring, waving, etc. Performance aside, there is not a chance in H3LL that I would have a TT over this car!!! I have never owned cars for a long period of time (longest is 18 months) and I can easily see me lasting 5+ years in this car (and even then, I hope I can afford to move the GTR to the garage as a track/weekend toy rather than selling it). What are the costs that you have heard of that are so expensive?? Going through the dealer is expensive, but would it be any less expensive than Audi?? The bonnet thing is very rare and is not as expensive as the horror stories - personally I would just put a standard bonnet on afterwards and leave the other stuff out. And depreciation.... well I just lost 2.5k on an 8k car in 9 months. I cant sell the impreza because it has dropped from 8k to 3k in 16 months... GTR is not that bad, never judge the car by the cheapest piece of **** that you find, you get what you pay for!!! EDIT - forgot the bad points... 2 of them 1. on the older models, the silver dash panels in the console reflect like a B@ST@RD!! Hence why mine got wrapped... 2. the paint/lacquer are rather soft and need constant attention

I've heard 2010 cars qualify for the free consierge service too? It's Kuro black which is my fav colour too lol. I think the tyres are like 2 grand a pop? Which is not that bad considering I just paid close to 1k on my TTS The servicing could be an issue but I definitely do less than 6000 a year though.... so prolly 2 services a year for me. Meh...going to go for a run to slowly think about this http://cdn.images.pistonheads.com/aimg/3545/3545804-3.jpg
grahamc
looks very nice... I was lucky to find the 2010 model on a 2011 plate. My old mini S had 17inch runflats which were 380 each... so the GTRs 20inch runflats are not badly priced at 500 each.... however there are options, many go for r888s, non run flats, smaller wheels 18s or source the tyres themselves (which is supposed to be a fair bit cheaper - was told 1400). I think its 1 service and 1 optimization (which is just a check and alignment) - under correction on this though, will find out when mine goes in at the end of Feb. jonathanc
lol On a serious note though (as I am not really getting answers on the GTROC but they could be bias ) I heard most pre MY11 cars are prone to suffer from gearbox problems and other electrical problems. I think I've read under TG mag that their lifer seem to have suffered from that too... is this true? As I would be using it daily for work I would prefer it to be fairly reliable :S not to say I dont have problems with AUdi but they are usually covered under manufacturer warranty and I get a nice courtesy car + pick up and delivery service everytime. I wonder if this applies to Nissan?

Scott
A GTR or an Audi TT? Are you serious when asking that question? I would have thought the answer is obvious. The only reason I can see for not choosing the GTR is if you can't afford it. It's like asking if you would rather have a TT Supra or a 1.2 Corsa IMO. Meh...it's TTRS not the run of the mill TT It's like saying N/As are proper Supras Joking aside the TTRS prices comes very close to used GTR prices hence the question. Again, not performance orientated but more value orientated.

Again, not performance orientated but more value orientated. So just how much closer to a GTR is a TTRS compared to a TT? My guess is I could throw you closer. Value? It's not about value when buying these cars, if you want something to sell for XXX at a later date stay away from cars altogether. It's an Audi TT, they are for hairdressers for the most part. Advertise a pretend one for sale and check out the calls you get They don't light anything ablaze, they don't and haven't done anything of note. No, wait. Did the Diesel variant not do well at LeMans or something? If so, I apologise..... is the TT RS a diesel?

j_jza80
Have you considered a Cayman S by the way? Seems like a good middle ground between the TT and GTR, while being far more of a drivers car than either of the others.

mwilkinson
What makes it a £120k car?! It's more like a £35k car with more expensive running gear. Well one of it's benchmarks for production was the 911 turbo which last time I looked was around £120k mark. Whilst the GTRs cost is half that of a 911 turbo it's running costs are equal, possibly more? Thus people are put off by the fact that, although cheap to buy, they are expensive to run. I would think this is a contributory factor in their rapid depreciation. In addition to this I read awhile back that the GTR is the only car in it's class to be upgraded every year of production, be it cosmetic or electronic/mechanical. This has also been cited as being another reason for it's poor residuals. You an see this in the general car market, on a longer term basis, with older models being far less desirable and expensive when a new model arrives.
