Fiesta failed the MOT - time for a change maybe?

I inherited my sons Fiesta Encore when he left for Oz in December and knew the MOT was due around the middle of Jan but as it had been running as sweet as a nut I didnt think it would be a problem - how wrong was I? :(

It has failed on 3 tyres (OK, I should have noticed that sooner), welding work, track rod end and a few other small bits n bobs. It looks like the costs is going to be 350.00 which, in my current situation, is quite a bit of money :(

So, I now have to decide whether to do it and have a car that is probably worth the same value as the repair (maybe more as it is a Y plate Fiesta Encore) or scrap it for about 120.00 and then put that money plus the repair money towards something a bit more fun?

I have been looking on Ebay at MR2's and MX5's for around that money (they are there is you snipe late) but my concern would be out of the fire into the frying pan so to speak.

What thinks you folks?

I Certainly agree that an mr2 or mx5 will be more fun than the fiesta, my brother sold his mr2 when he bought a house and bought a fiesta instead, he says its a massive regret now, even the fuel costs aren't that far different.

In my opinion, go for the mr2 :)

I just saw a very similar MR2 on Faceache. That looks great Colin. Hope you have loads of fun in that! :)

I think I shall my friend. I spoke to the buyer and despite him being a Scouser ( :D ), he sounded very genuine and knowledgeable. To be honest, after looking around at the prices being bandied about for very old models, this was a bargain at just 600.00.

Cant wait to pick it up now :)

Let me know when the welsh are invading the Scouseland, and I'll try to meet you for a brew :)

I like that idea. It will either be Thursday or Saturday. If Thursday I will be coming up on the train and stopping at Runcorn to be picked up. If Saturday my son Josh will be bringing me up in the afternoon.

Thats a nice car, alot more fun than a fiesta too, looks tidy.

I think so too. I am not picking it up until next Saturday but cant wait to drive something with a little more poke than my recent cars.

I have now sold the Fiesta too and with the money off that and what it was going to cost to repair, I paid for this. Bargain I reckon :D

Definitely a bargain, my brother bought his whilst I had my celica gt (st202), I was gutted when I drove the mr2 for the first time, it was quicker and definitely more more fun to drive than my celica and it cost less than a third as much :( , It was then when I decided it was time to get a supra.

We are seriously considering buying a non runner GT-S as a project car but realisticly once we bought it we aren't in a position finacially to do anything else with it for a year or so.
