Advice from the Photographers

Can i have some suggestions please on a decent entry level camera for a Amateur photographer. Budget wise, i'm looking to spend up too around £250 to begin with. I have my eye on the FujiFilm HS10/HS20exr at the moment as i've read good things. It would also eliminate the need for me to spend extra on decent lenses. I'm not looking for something all singing all dancing like a DSLR, just something that's relatively easy to get use and takes some decent photos to get me into it.

Thanks

A review of the HS10 if anyone wishes to comment

I'm sure it will be fine.

Also look at the Panasonic Lumix range, ie FZ45

A bridge camera such as this is a fantastic way of developing your photography.

If after a while you feel you've outgrown your camera, you can move onto a DSLR.

I am by no means a photography expert, but have owned a Fuji finepix s5600 now for a while and despite the poor (by today's standards) resolution have taken some great photos with it, I should add that it falls in the bridge catagory. Carmel (the missus) campaigned heavily for me to buy her the Coolpix L120 for christmas, I tried to get her to look at the Fujis but after reading the Which reviews on it which said it was the second best in it's class and also getting a half price deal on it from Argos with 2 years warranty I did get her an L120. It boasts a great optical zoom range and is much higher res than my Fuji, but oh my, imo, it is not ideal for the novice/beginner.

With the Fuji auto really means just that, you leave it on auto and it really does seem to work out the best settings to take the best compromise type of snap. The new Cannon however has two auto modes "easy auto" and "auto". Again imo, pictures taken on easy auto just dont come close to my Fuji and unless you do mannual measurements for light on Auto and ramp the iso up, invariably the results on auto are not fantastic. To be honest we have not spent a lot of time experimenting and maybe when we get used to it it will shine....but I do wish she had chosen the modern day version of the Fuji.

The Fuji HS20 and the Panasonic FZ45 both seem to have gotten some good reviews. I'd say if you can't go wrong with either if you're looking for a bridge camera. :)

The reviews on the quality of photos for the HS20 ive read have all been positive, but i've come across a few different complaints now through Google about failures in the units, hence why i'm also considering its older brother the HS10. You can pick up the HS20 for cheaper than the HS10 lol.

I wonder if Abz' Nikkon is a cheap copy of a Nikon?

In the same way that Pirates shoot with Cannons and togs shoot with Canons.

I'll be over at Pedant's Corner should you need any further assistance :D

Lol ! Would you say the Nikon would be a better choice over the HS10? I think he has a couple of lens with it from memory.
