Our missing dog came home

We have a lot of dogs here at the farm, one of them is called Gemma, a black gundog labrador belonging to my girlfriend. Most days Gemma will go off hunting/playing in the fields and woods after breakfast and for 6 years has always returned home a few hours later. She was last seen on the 30th Dec at 8pm when the yard was locked up. One door is always left slightly open to allow the security dogs to roam the farm at night. The following morning Gemma was nowhere to be seen. This was very odd as she will always have her breakfast first before doing anything and is always the first dog to jump up at my girlfriend for a morning hug. She is one of the strangest natured and loyal labradors i have ever known, especially to Cheryl.

We called the police, dog wardens, all local vets and kennels incase she had been found and taken somewhere. Everyday the dog warden and council have phoned us asking if she had returned. Cheryl and i have spent hours upon hours walking everywhere looking for her ever since she went missing incase she was stuck, theres 80 acres of land and woods. Every day we returned and it felt like a member of the family had gone. The other dogs, especially Gemma's best friend, a jack russell was also clearly missing her very much. Every time we drove out in the cars you couldnt help but have your eyes stuck to the ditches and side of the road looking for her. It got to the stage it would have been nicer to even find her if the worst had happened, at least we would have known what happened.

This morning i was laying in bed, Cheryl was having a coffee in the kitchen when she shouts out 'Gemma's home, Gemma's home!' I thought i was dreaming and raced to the front door and there was Gemma in Cheryl's arms. She'd just walked back from wherever she had been. She is very very skinny and smells like a sewer. I think she has clearly been stuck somewhere, i wish i knew where as i couldnt think of many other places we could have searched.

Its been a great start to the day, she still has the same loving eyes and tail wagging, just needs lots of good meals and a warm bed.

Just thought i would share.... :)

Cheers guys. She's definetly been stuck somewhere. Maybe she's had 1 last attempt to get out. She's getting lots of attention, dog food, meat and gravy, bacon rolls! Very glad she is home :)

Bacon rolls? I'll come and hide in a sewer for a week at yours if I can get that level of fuss..!!

Pleased for you Christian.

Good News!

Amazed you let her out! We have 2 gun dogs, both cockers and have heard of so many being stolen recently we don't let our 2 out of our sight... A girl we know had her lab stolen by 4 men in a transit van only last week.... Scumbags!

Glad yours is a happy ending though :)
