Not sure if the Garmin is or not, I can only go on the screen shots I have seen. I may get a Garmin from Argos just to try out and then hand back to them. I will be sticking with the Tomtom XXL, so long as I can get a new unit with the original OS on it.

Ok I await your review :D

Or this? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Garmin-Nuvi-2240-European-Mapping/dp/B00421BLRO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I am a bit confused by what we are going to need TBH.

I think the problem is we arn't going to places but gps coordinates which JB is providing, so if you get seperated you can still find your way. So you need one with itinerary planning to be able to insert a string or coordinates for our route.

I think I will await a decision as to which ones provide that function as, to be honest, you might just as well have written that in Swahili for all I understood :D

CJ, I have always used Tomtom so I'm sticking with what I know. ScottC uses a Garmin and may be able to give you a better view of which model is best.

I think all garmins have itinerary planning, but the latest Tomtoms dont.

Thanks JB

I have used Garmin in the past and found them very good. I currently have one like you - a jimmy joke shop Binatone that works "OK" in this country but certainly not good enough for overseas.

My Binatone has the european maps on it and it works pretty well, the screen is just a little small and the maps are a little out of date now..So it was time for an upgrade.

I've not managed to work out how to convert mine to Tom Tom maps and get the euro maps on. Maybe its time for Josh to spend a bit of money and upgrade us!

I've been looking at the garmin nuvi 1340 and the Tom Tom start classic as both offer uk and European maps and are for sale on amazon at £85 and £90 respectively.

Are these good value and more to the point, suitable for our needs on the trip?
