Nemesis
Not strictly old school but the recent remake of The Hills Have Eyes is truly brutal. I liked it. Avoid remake of hills have eyes II... woeful.

Avoid remake of hills have eyes II... woeful. Seen both of them, if you have seen the original hills have eyes II you will notice a massive improvement with the remake. The original sequel was shockingly bad.

Scott
Believe it or not I've seen that. I LOVED those types of movies when I was younger, Tarantula was one of my favourites. Although these movies most definitely don't stand up to the test of time lol.
Scott
Updated list.. Watched Deadly Blessing - This was one of the better flicks with a shockingly bad ending. Deadly Friend - Really enjoyed this as a kid. It's still OK but not particularly worth watching unless you're a fan. Delores Claiborne - Quite enjoyed this but it's no more a horror than the carebares. Demons - AWFUL, avoid at all costs. It has the most racist version of a token black guy I have ever seen. Desperation - 1 decent actor in the whole movie, Ron Perlman. Says it all. Happy Birthday To Me - Watched it last night. A bit slow and boring with a decent ending. Hellraiser - I was pleasantly surprised with this, it wasn't what I thought. A little one dimensional though (excuse the pun). Maximum Overdrive - Old truck classic. Decent enough movie, ropey at times but still enjoyable. Misery - Good film, still holds up reasonably well. Pet semetary - Not bad at all. Phenomena - This lasted 5 mins, shockingly bad. Rose Red - Far to long and boring. Salems Lot - Definitely not stood the test of time, I really couldn't get into this movie at all. Sometimes they come back - This wasn't half bad. The Stand - I enjoyed it more the 2nd time round but it was incredibly tame IMO. It - Best horror movie ever IMO. It's always on my list to watch regardless of when I last saw it. Student Bodies - One of the first horror spoofs, absolutely rubbish though. Swamp Thing - Good fun, ridiculous at the same time though. The Dead Zone - Quite enjoyed this, it dragged on a bit but the idea and plot was pretty good. The Hills Have Eyes - This was OK. The remake has the bases covered though The Hills Have Eyes 2 - This was ridiculous, same as the remake. The Last house on the left - really enjoyed this, the remake pretty decent too. The Monster Squad - As crappy as this movie is today I still love it regardless The Serpent and the Rainbow - I tried this as a teen and gave up, is it worth it? The Shining - Classic Tommyknockers - Should have been better than it was, not sure what let it down but the idea (the book) was fantastic. Still to watch Cats Eye - Really enjoyed this when I was young Children of the Corn - A classic that I have only seen the remake of, any good? City of the living dead - I stuck this on for 10 mins last night and I wasn't impressed, might give it a miss altogether. Cujo - Classic that I can't believe I haven't seen. Demons 2 - Where it should be horribly terrible it's meant to be terrible in a good way? Dolans Cadilac - No idea? Going from the title I was thinking Christine? Feast - As above Firestarter - As above Graveyard Shift - As above Hearts in Atlantis - No idea? Maniac Cop - An old classic that I watched till the tape was see through, not sure if it will hold up now though. Mind Ripper - No Idea Night Flyer - ??? Pet Semetary 2 - I fear the worst. Quicksilver Highway - No idea Return to Salems Lot - I think I've seen the original but I can't remember anything. Riding the Bullet - No Idea Shocker - It was fun in the 80s, not sure how it will hold up now. Silver Bullet - Quite enjoyed this IIRC, look forward to seeing it again. Sleepwalkers - No Idea Trucks - I'm thinking this is probably just maximum overdrive? Summer of Fear - No idea Tenebre - No idea The Black Cat - I got confused between this and cats eyes, I don't think I've seen this. The Dark Half - No idea the diary of ellen rimbauer - No Idea The Gate - I remember enjoying this as a kid, curious if it will be as bad as ghoulies lol. The living Dead Girl - The title isn't filling me with confidence. The Mangler - I think I tried to watch this and gave up. The People Under the Stairs - Sounds promising for some cheesy horror. They - I remember "they Live", don't know if I've seen this though. Thinner - No Idea Venom - No Idea Wishmaster - Is this the rumplestiltskin dude? American werewolf in London Galaxy of Terror Hell Night Razorback The Wraith The Driller Killer Don't Panic Camerons Closet Stage Fright The Haunting Monkey Shines Wolfen Cat People The Keep From Beyond Needful Things Langoliers Midnight meat Train Burnt Offerings Suspiria Don't be afraid of the dark The Stone Tape The Brood The Car Rosemarys Baby The Devil Rides Straw Dogs
Scott
Todays entertainment.... Cats Eye - It was ok. I remember really enjoying the last story when I was younger but I felt the first one with James Woods was the better tale this time round. Children of the corn - It's a decent enough flick, a little weak at times with a LOT of overacting but it has enough depth to enjoy. City of the living dead - Absolute garbage. Cujo - Quite enjoyed this flick, the right amount of suspense with a typical ending. Quite predictable at times and the characters were extremely dim witted but other than that it was good. Demons 2 - Still on it. I'm not holding out much hope for this one, the start of the movie is 100 times better than the first one though so as long as that keeps up I might last till the end. al02uk
Has any of the films you have recently seen been surprisingly good? I'm doing something similar, but watching just about any horror film that comes along, not many seem to have the same appeal as the ones i watched as a kid. Thought of an obvious one to watch..............Phsyco (1960)

Thought of an obvious one to watch..............Phsyco (1960) Yeah a few. I enjoyed Delores Claiborne, Hellraiser, the Dead Zone, The Serpent and the Rainbow, Cujo and Deadly Blessing. Happy Birthday to me was also reasonable but it really showed its age. Most of the others have been garbage but I pretty much expected nothing else. Psycho I have seen, great film. I quite enjoyed the remake too. I've seen pretty much all of the big horror movies, it's more the hidden gems I'm after
al02uk
I think its about time I watched Cujo, should have watched it a while ago really. I've been looking at a couple of Paranormal Activity/Blair Witch type films, if your interested. Underground (2011) is one......I'm seriously clutching at straws mind, trying to find a really good film.
Nemesis
Just watched Near Dark again, 1987 movie. Cracking flick, as good as I remembered. Directed by Kate (Point Break) Bigelow. Vampires in a Winabago on tour.

Animal
Troma films are good for the cheese factor - Toxic Avenger Class of Nuke Em High Cannibal - the Musical Frostbiter Beware Children at Play Rabid Grannies Tromeo & Juliet all proper low budget B-Movie schlock, great fun. Street Trash - 80's 'melt' movie involving toxic moonshine (Dee Snider's) Strangeland - kind of a cross between Silence of the Lambs & Seven, definately one I'd recommend. The Blob The Fly Re-Animator April Fools Day Ankle Biters - Midget Vampires, what more could you ask for? Funnyman - Cheesy UK comedy pisstake on horror. Shockingly bad, but it amused us when a bunch of us watched it pissed.
slugger1
I've seen killer klowns when I was younger, is it a horror comedy? I can't remember if it was actually being serious or not but I remember something like a big tent filled with people wrapped up in candy floss or something? With the big tent being their space ship? Never heard of stage fright so I'll add that to the list, cheers. Yes, that's the one. Stage Fright is worth watching. Some good kills and has a very good ending if I remember correctly.
