Scott
I'm a bit of a nighthawk so when off work for any time I tend to sit up and watch movies at night. My choices are running a bit thin so I decided to take on The Stand (Stephen King mini-series). I can vaguely remember the movie/series as I watched it when it came out the first time (I was young) so I probably didn't even get it for the most part. All I remember is that my Dad didn't think much of it so I didn't give it another chance till now. Anyway, I don't even remember why but I googled it and came up with something "interesting" from Wikipedia. According to them the Stand is being remade as a movie, most probably a 3 part movie. Thoughts? I've only just started part 2 (of 4 in the one I have) and even though it's a typical Stephen King mini-series the story really does have potential and, IMO, in the right hands it could make for a rather nice flick. According to IMDB they are aiming for 2013 but there isn't a lot more to go on than that.
kjgreen3
I enjoyed the original mini-series because I think Stephen King had more control of the movie, may even have been executive producer. I enjoy the fact he casts unknown actors in main roles to get as much realism from the same character in his books. I am much more excited about his 'magnum opus', THE DARK TOWER (7 books highly recommend reading them) being made into a movie and also corresponding tv series to run concurrently, Think X-Men 1 as a movie, X-Men 2 as a 12 part tv series then X-Men 3 as a movie. All with the same cast playing the main characters involved. See: http://screenrant.com/dark-tower-movie-trilogy-tv-series-ross-77542/ Also: http://www.darktowermovies.com/ Seems to be a tall order for a studio to commit, But to me its no different than the Lord of the Rings, upcoming Hobbitt Trilogies in terms of the length, budget and long term casting. Look how sucessful LOTR was. To get back to your original point a remake will have to have King on-board making the important decisions with a large budget and maybe have to be split like Kill Bill as its a lengthy adaptation to be worth watching IMO. Or just get Christopher Nolan to direct it and his brother to write the screenplay. Find a way for Christian Bale to play a main character. Get dreamworks to finance it and it will probably be the biggest grossing movie of that year!
jim
My favourite book ever, unfortunately none of the films or mini-series made of his books are any good...well, with the exception of Stand By Me but that wasn't a horror.
Scott
Have to disagree there Jim, IT was/is fantastic IMO.
jim
Another of my favourite books bud (along with Salem's Lot and Pet Sematary) but I'm always disappointed with the films, the books are amazing but maybe there's something about them that don't translate onto the big screen. I didn't realise that there was a film/series of IT. Actually, there are a couple of other gems that I forgot - The Shining, and The Green Mile
Nemesis
Have to disagree there Jim, IT was/is fantastic IMO. With you....until I saw the spider..

Scott
Shawshank redemption was pretty good too. Shawshank redemption is the best movie ever. I always found it funny that his best success on the big screen came from non-horrors lol.
fastcar
When you read a book you kind of use you own imagination to create an image in you head of what is going on in the scene. In a movie it's someone else's imagination so a horror film that has been adapted from a book will never be as good as the book.
j_jza80
Have to disagree there Jim, IT was/is fantastic IMO. Another one ripe for a remake, but they'd have to have Tim Curry back as the clown, he MADE the film IMO. Shame about that spider business at the end of the original. Infact, if they played with the original a bit, ie used some computer witchcraft to change the bit at the end and made it 3D, it would be fantastic "They float, they all float down here"... Scott
I definitely agree with the spider effects etc, but the casting and the effects was never really It's strong points It's probably my favourite horror movie of all time due to the story more than anything. I guess that's what translates so well from the book, the actual tale. I'm in 2 minds with whether a remake would be good or not, it most certainly COULD be great but it's far more likely that the hollywood tinsel would ruin it unfortunately.
