Ian W
Guys Recently purchased a new TV (Samsung 40" LED) and hope to make the most of it. Virgin have been giving us the run around and failing big time with the broadband side of things (slow to zero speeds, dropping out, not connecting at all etc). The new TV has Freeview HD built in which I'd planned to utilise with Plusnet providing the calls and broadband. Sadly, our flat has no aerial!! (I should state that we live in a sandstone tenement with another floor / roof above us). This leaves me with only Sky or Virgin to go with. Can anyone recommend anything else or alternatively which would be my best bet between Virgin / Sky? Thanks in advance for your help. Ian W
Awoke this morning to find no tv, broadband or telephone working. Possibly in the aftermath of last night's weather, who knows. Called them today and am expecting an engineer tomorrow. If he doesn't give me the assurances I'm after, there's no way I'll be sticking with Virgin. Sheefa
Ian We had Sky for both TV, Phone and Broadband. It was ultra reliable, especially the internet, but we switched the Broadband in July last year to Virgin as we only getting around 2mb-4mb connection with Sky and even if we did upgrade to a superior package we couldn't get any more than 8mb. Now we have the XXL package with Virgin at a 'supposed' 50MB and I have to say, it's useless. Connection always drops and nothing but nightmare download and upload rates when it is successful. The amount of times it has just frozen completely I dread to think. Go back to Sky if I was you. We'll be doing this once our contract is up. Lbm
I took the Sky phone/net/tv bundle. The net speed is barely 8Mb though. Before, I had 14Mb with O2. At the end of the contract I'll probably go with Virgin - Plenty of people on here are achieving 50MB with them.
Ian W
Thanks both! Really hasn't helped my decision haha Services are back thankfully. I think I may stick with Virgin in the end, but only because I don't want the dish on the building or want to pay an activation fee for the telephone line. Hopefully, all new boxes (modem / router / tivo) will iron out any problems.
jonathanc
Yes, Virgin 50MB is good especially if you watch a lot of online stuff / stream HD movies. However, if you download a lot of stuff keep in mind you will be capped
imi
Check adslguide.org.uk and broadband.net as the performance of the suppliers tends to vary per area.
Max Headroom
I get 0.5Mb so I wouldn't complain too much
