What car should i get?

What is it with people and mileage? The past 3 years Ive lived on a motoring diet of sub 700 quid cars. All of them Tdis, all of them 150k plus. Current Skoda Octavia, 180k, last one Mk3 Golf Tdi, 215k miles.

Seriously pocket 3 grand, get a VW diesel with tax and test. Modern engines have no

probs with medium to high miles of looked after. Could get a nice Passat or Octavia for a grand or just over for that money.

Totally agree.

I bought my 1997 Astra 1.7tdi about 3 years ago.

£700 and always 50mpg.

It came with 150k and now has 205k

Ugly and dented a bit, but a remarkable purchase.

Maybe buy a £1000 car and pay 3k off your mortgage?

No its just old age i think :(

Yes i got it now lol

Sorry to the op for missing it

With 4k to spend the worlds your oyster with cheap economical cars but

if monies tight i'd save 2.5k and still get a nice 1.4 tdi Fiesta, theres a

2002 with 100k on it on the trader for £1495 ;) has 68 bhp & 118 ft lbs of torque

so way more than your old Clio :)

Rover 220 is 104 bhp and easy to tune to 130 bhp with a manual boost controller :D

Significant amount around for less than a grand

If its for a cheap economical daily why do you need a 1.6 ? 0-60 is a couple of seconds differant and top speed

is still 100 + on the 1.4 !

I want it for motorway journeys for day trips and weekends away in this country and from the reviews, the 1.6 seems much better than the 1.4 at high(er) speeds.

I personally couldnt recommend a Rover to anyone, not even an old person :)

You've got one in your avatar???

To be honest you can't argue with the price tag like this one if you want something newer http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-25-2-0-TD-101ps-Si-2004-Grey-ONLY-41-000-Miles-/300638850660?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item45ff78ce64

VAG cars in this era are not any better specced and are double the price.

Very good cars. I've had one and stuck good miles on it, a mate of mine had one and stuck over 100k on his. Its a nifty commuter that costs pennies to buy, pennies to run, and is disposable if it breaks.

That was a ground up re built off roader so hardly comparable with a 220 or any

other car Rover have built :)

My daily is a 3.0 TDi Landcruiser so your wasting your time with the common sense

argument of a Rover 25 :D

If i was to have a sensible daily it would be a 2005 onwards Golf or something similar with a 1.9 TDi

in it and if i got 40 mpg out of it i'd be over the moon :D

You have a Supra for weekends away !

Had to park on the road in Newquay when I went away and my Fiesta blew up. There's no way I'd have been comfortable leaving the Supra where I'd have left the Fiesta.

Could just spend more on a hotel with a car park next time though! :D

Well if you will go to the nicest of tourist destinations then im not supprised :)

I wouldn't got to Newquay in the first place :D

I won't be going again. The slags I'd heard would be there parading about weren't even hot!

I might have been with the girlfriend, but my eyes have a mind of their own!

Use my supra everyday can't see the point of having a car sat on the driveway like an ornament

Some people can't afford to run one everyday so its not an option for everyone. I work in a supermarket so using it for work isn't an option really. How would you like to park your pride and joy in a carpark full of mindless morons 5 days a week?

So why buy a car you cant afford to run?

Think I am going to get a Fabia VRS never really thought of a Skoda till Josh and Scott M suggested them thanks to you both :)

Just need to find one at the right money now.

Some people just cant be told.... You can save 2 or 3 grand and get the same performance from a Golf, Passat, Octavia.
