Re-aligning Doors

Recommended Posts

Alright fellas,

I have just been to Toyota to get them to re-align my doors as they are scuffing the paint on my OEM side skirts.

They have dropped a couple of mm at the back of the doors.

The bloke I spoke to was very helpful and came and had a good look at my car, but did not think it could be done. He said there was no adjustment.

Is this true ?

Cheers,

Gordon.

there will be some adjustment as long as the door is bolted and not pinned, if they are bolted slacken all the bolts except the top one and get a mate to yank the back end of the door up (with it open) and as he holds it in the yanked position tighten all the bolts back up, if it is pinned it must have a delicate adjustment with a big hammer, but i wouldnt try this yourself !

My local Toyota garage altered my doors with no problem. They can be adjusted by a few millimetres.

I had the same problem as you, my doors were wearing away the paint on my side skirt wrap round as it went under the door, but now after raising the door by 1mm its fine.

Thanks Lovatt,

I think there is a pin as well a few bolts.

Aren't all mkiv's the same ?

Cheers,

just had a look in the light and it is bolted, yes all mkiv should be the same but i didnt know how the door was attached, the two bolts that go into the door are the ones you need to slacken off. it really is easy dont pay toyota to do it !

Okay, me and my brother loosened the 4 bolts on the door and lifted it. It does seem to have raised a mm or so, but the skirt isn't completely flat against the bodywork and I think that may be the problem (at least part of it).

So, I'm gonna get some strong adhesive and try that........
