jonathanc
Basically long story short some nutter think its funny to let the air from my tyre out. I didn't realise this at first and drove around 10 miles with it almost flat. By the time I can pull over safely I notice the sidewalls suffered some "abbrasive" damage. I refilled it as soon as I could to correct pressures and so far it seems fine. It's really a pain for me as I've just replace the tyre 2 weeks ago. I've attached a picture below. Do you guys think it is still safe or should I just change the tyre? http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3414/tyre1o.jpg http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/1290/tyre2.jpg

jonathanc
i dunno about the tyre bit isnt that a very dangerous thing to do! i would never touch someones tyres even if it was just a joke Yes, he is a real cunt which I've posted in Members sometime ago. I have CCTV footage that I need to sift through to see if I can catch him. It's nearly 200 quid a tyre fitted and since the ones Audi fitted is phased out I can't really find it anywhere else at the moment... happy days
Neil-NA
10 miles is a lot to drive with an almost flat tyre, I would change.

Noz
I think you can damage the mesh wall inside the tyre and make it unbalanced. I would of thought it wouldn't blow out or anything, I would think your have vibration at high speeds or unbalanced braking, anything an unbalanced wheel would simulate etc etc. Would recommend getting it changed. Westy
For the sake of a couple of hundred £ I would change it mate...better that than having a blow out and crashing.
jim
I'd change it bud, you'll likely end up with an 'egg' or two on the sidewall which will lead to a blow-out
snake
I drove about 100 metres on a flat tyre and inside it the sidewall was knackered . so i would change it
Abz
Can you see any cracks in the sidewall? Some little toe rag tried nicking my tyre caps which ended up letting a tyre down which was brand new! The weight of the car sitting flat on the tyre caused the damage so I had to replace it. If you were driving on it then it could have caused more damage so would have weakened it. Do you mostly drive local?
jonathanc
Thanks for the advice chaps. Thing is Audi is clever to fit all - round Conti Sport Contact 2s (which are now phased out) so I would need to replace both the rears. Might go for an upgrade and a better CCTV camera. Just can't believe how mad some people are sometimes. I've never done anything to harm him except fall out with him and exposed his ugly truth to his victims... oh well... had a crappy christmas so far with all the nbills coming in
AJI
From what I can see in those pics, the tyre looks fine. If the rubber is still intack with no cracks or small bulges appearing under pressure then it should be fine. For a safety check you could put in 40psi and have a good check to see if any bulges appear then. If the tyre still looks fine then reduce pressure back to normal and keep checking the tyres for abnormalities for the next two weeks of driving. After that, apart from not looking 'nice' they should be fine. Important note : remember to be checking both outside AND inside track of the tyre, ie. the side that can be seen when standing looking at it from the driver and passenger sides and also the side that is visible from underneath the car. That's very informative mate, thanks. I've already ordered 2 replacements for the rears (recouping one "as-new" to replace one of the fronts) as I drive the car for often and I do not want to risk anyone elses lives on the roads. I guess it's just been a shitty time for me this year hopefully will improve when the New Year arrives. I really hope I can find some evidence in the CCTV footage as that prick really needs to be handed to the law for once. Just have to sift slowly through hours of footage... dangerous brain
Buddy if you intend on getting quick anywhere I would not entertain keeping the tyres. You could in the least have someone whip them off and examine the inside of them as the damage will show internally more than externally. You don't want to find out that your tyres aren't safe by blowing out over a tone and hitting another car or the armco quite hard.
Ross C
Some muppet done the same to me last year. Only drove on a flattish tyres for about about 3 miles but was advised to change them because of the cracks on the tyre wall
Suprab1
I have seen many tyres looking fine on the outside but remove the tyre & more than likely the inside wall is knackerd. Remove the tyre & check it, look to see if the rubber has come away inside. In my experience the inside is always worse.
Dnk
10 miles on a totally flat tyre means its scrap, the sidewall strength will be seriously compromised.
Attero
As dnk said, 10 miles is a long way for a flat.

Hope you find some "chlorine". Yes, I am boiling inside now too. Nothing like sitting here knowing someone did it but have nothing on him as yet. Deep breaths..... I've already ordered 2 new tyres from a mate who owns a local garage. One strange point noted : Audi who replaced all four around 2 weeks ago put on Conti Sport Contact 2. However a quick search with mate revealed they are now replaced with Sport Contact 3 which are roughtly same prices and rated slightly better in reviews. Kinna odd why Audi put on old tyres for me? Perhaps they were trying to clear old stock? They've charged 200 per tyre fitted as well where my mate only charged around 175... I guess I'm not having the best of luck with money this Christmas eh? Dnk
I'd never let a main dealer fit and supply tyres as you rarely get a very good deal What size are they ? you can still get contact 2's from a few places

Dealers will always charge a premium becuase of the garauntee they give. Not saying your mate won't garauntee his work but most garages will fob you off rather than admit they are at fault, but even some dealers do this.
