supraturbochris
Morning guys and a very merry christmas to you all. As a few of you know, i currently own a toyota mr2 turbo. I ran it a few times at santa pod this year. Anyways, im really missing supra ownership and want to come back But im after something a little different. I was thinking if i was to buy a lexus v8 engine and buy a na auto or manual, will the v8 engine bolt straight to the auto/manual box? will i need adapters? i will prob need a engine wiring harness. Any other bits required? Im not out for loads of power yet, i know this has been done a few times now, just need some advise guys please thanks

garethr
Bolting the 1UZ into a Supra is easy, because, since the Supra basically used the Soarer chassis, the Supra crossmember is the same as the Soarer crossmember. V8 Soarer engine mounts and away you go (most Soarers have goosed engine mounts, unless they have already been replaced, so budget for new). Also, both cars use a version of the A340 automatic gearbox so the bellhousing to gearbox bolt pattern is the same. Obviously, you have the problem of integrating the wiring. It becomes more complicated if you want to go manual, but there are a number of ways to link the V8 to the W58.. Early V8s (1993 and earlier, IIRC) have stronger conrods. EDITED - originally said weaker by mistake. The LS400 version has the wrong sump. The Soarer version has a cooling fan driven by a hydraulic pump, so you either need to use electric fans or the viscous-coupled fan from an LS. Oh, and don't forget the cost of an exhaust system that allow it sound like a V8. No Chris has no excuse. One thing we gets me though is the V8 noise, Raj's one sounded awesome at both SupraPod and SRR. I am sooo tempted to go V8 myself! Guest ugp
I thought it was the earlier versions that had stronger rods? the later versions got skinnies? Thats correct, 91-94 have the stronger rods, mid 94+ had the thinner ones. On a stock motor, it isn't going to matter though.

How long you reckon its going to stay stock haha. I think they might of stopped running hyper-reutectic pistons on the later ones aswell. Edited the original post. There's a pic on Lextreme that illustrates the difference. fastcar
Just out of intrest how would the V8 motor effect the handeling of the supra? I'm guessing it would be longer and a bit heavier. Sound like a great idea though. Go for it.
