Blut_VTEC Posted December 23, 2011 Share Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Because I wan't my gauge to display km/h again, instead of mph, AND my lights behind the speedometer, revcounter, watertemp and fuelgauge aren't working, i decided to remove the cluster and have a look: http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/6819/dsc01204n.jpg And when I removed the 3 connectors and flipped the cluster over, I noticed this: http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/4964/dsc01205dzj.jpg http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/8782/dsc01206i.jpg The two right conncectors are fine, but there is 1 wire cut about 3 cm from the connector from the speedometer and that's going to what I beleive is the convertor And from the connector what is going to he odometer (left in picture) there is 2 wires cut of and going to the converter: http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/1204/dsc01209o.jpg http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3701/dsc01214o.jpg http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/9028/dsc01216a.jpg http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2152/dsc01217us.jpg So I can just remove that converter, and solder the wires back together ? and I don't have to search for a replacement cluster ?? Does anybody know if these wires effect any of my lights in the cluster ? mwilkinson Posted December 23, 2011 Share Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Hi mate. The block is likely the speed converter and top speed delimiter. If you wan to go back to KPH just remove this and reconnect the wires to stock. You might then just need to find a top speed delimiter to replace this if your fussed about going over 118 mph or whatever speed it is. The other wires coming from the dials will be power wires. They don't use the bulbs because they have a self illuminating membrane. As mentioned in your previous thread just buy a complete second hand binnacle and swap it for the butchered one you have in your pictures. You may not have to relace the binnacle if the aftermarket dials have just been placed over the top of the others. Take the whole cluster apart and see if they have been glued. The only problem you might have is that to remove them you will need to remove the needles and getting these calibrated can be a bit of a chore. Personally for the hassle and expense I would contact Keron (extreme performance) and get a second hand J-Spec binnacle and just replace it. By doing the above two things you will have a car showing kph and stock dials. Simples!! The wires from the converter will not only change the speed to mph, but will count the milage by miles too. The display will still say kph but it will be working in miles. heckler Posted December 26, 2011 Share Posted December 26, 2011 Your dials are EL glow, so they do not require the bulbs. However. Normal bulbs will not work behind the EL dials. You'll have to remove the EL dial faces, if your lucky the original dial faces will be behind the EL ones. If not you may be able to find some stock dials or even aftermarket faces from metal monkey who can do any style you want. I've just installed a new set of Indiglo dials, and they are working great, but which, or what bulbs do I need to get the needles to light up again? I had the same issue with the Elglo dials too, and want to correct it if I can. I've previously removed bulbs from the back of the cluster (when I installed the Elglo), but I cannot find them anywhere.
