The entire SE has thought about cashing in on this, I would not bother yourself being in Wickford, Stratford maybe
Abz
I live in East London (Docklands) about a 10 minute drive to Stratford. A lot of people have been hyping up about the Olympics & how people will be paying £5,000 for a month's rental & how it is changing the area completely, the house prices are going to be through the roof, lots of people thinking of kicking out current tenants for the Olympics. The truth? The Olympic's will run over the course of 2 weeks. Hotel's will do very well, large plush apartments will do very well, local business will do well for them 2 weeks. Then it will be back to normal & closing down of things as they can't afford to run it.
Branners
DONT MENTION THE OLYMPICS, it must be referred to as the 'sporting event'!! Just for info, apparently the marketing nazis for the Olympics get really uppity if you start advertising ANYTHING that tries to link to the Olympics, their sponsors get shirty too and grass you up. This page has various links http://www.windsor.gov.uk/2012/business-information/guidelines-and-regulations but this one is a corker!! http://www.windsor.gov.uk/xsdbimgs/2012%20pdf/guidelines-for-business-use(1).pdf All this wiffle waffle about the Olympics helping local businesses seems a little far fetched now as you really cannot mention it in any advertising or use any of the logos in any shape or form. They will track you down and ask you to desist... Im sure we can still discuss it without falling foul of their rules, but I certainly wont be running any events associated with the sporting event at all!! Branners
We got picked off at work, one of the key 'sporting event' advertisers were on a mailer we sent mentioning our special offer around the Olympics. We had to take the whole thing down from the website, remove all the email footers and scrap all the leaflets and A2 posters in all the offices. That was indeed an amusing day. The whole special offer is back now, we just dont mention any of the trademarked words. We even ran a twitter picture campaign with the two soft toys doing amusing things round the offices, that had to come down too. It is quite frankly amazing how they are enforcing the rules. Glad we won the games and have had to spend millions building a shrine to corporate greed....little bit of politics there.
RobUK
I'll send you some of the rate cards for Internet access for the Olympic venues... That will bring tears to your eyes! Locog make money however you look at it...
Branners
Would be interested to see that as we provide internet access to clients and generally dont charge for it.
