hodge
I'm picking this up after Christmas. It's a Phase 2 Renault 5 GT Turbo. It's been sitting in a garage for 2 years after an engine failure. It need a lot of love but myself and my oldest son are young restore it over the next year or so. It looks a lot worse than it is really. We both can't wait to get stuck into it. I had 1 of these when I was younger and loved the car. I'm really going to enjoy spending the time doing it with my son too Anyways here a few pics of the car as it stands.

tooquicktostop
Thats so weird, I was bidding on a Raider a couple of weeks ago but the money just got silly, I had a black GT Turbo in 1991, loved it, ended up spending a fortune on it (ruining it actually but I was young), sprayed it citrine yellow with Renault 19 alloys, escort cossie bonnet vents and a manual boost controller to name but a few mods, went like stink, went through head gaskets just as quickly !! hodge
The best part of it all I was given it for free. The pics make it look a lot worse than it is. Everything is a bit pie in the sky at the minute concerning the engine but I'm thinking of using a Volvo 440 engine which is a 1.7 turbo engine. We'll get all the bodywork etc cleaned up and go from there.

Sounds like a wise move, the 1.4 is not the strongest lump with raised boost levels
johnny g
Wasn't there a 1.7 N/A version of that engine, where the 1.4 Turbo head could be used on it? Either way - great little cars. Looking forward to seeing it and hearing it!

Vandalism?

Looking forward to seeing it and hearing it! Yep was a GTX or Monoco. The Volvo 440 engine is the same engine but with low compression pistons etc. the Monoco or GTX wasn't a turbo charged car hence using the volvo engine was the best option. TheTurtleshead
I put a B18FT volvo 440 turbo lump in an R5 about 2 months ago, so if you want any advice drop me a PM for photos etc! Highly recommend this swap, transformed the car imo, and at circa 300HP my friend's one is lively for a pocket rocket!
Pudsey
My brother has a Renault 5 GTX 1.7. It was as fast as a turbo version easy, and made some pretty expensive cars look very silly indeed. Was great fun at the time, but boy it didn't half use petrol. The ultimate would be the 1.7 engine turbo charged, or you could go 1.8, 2.0 clio 16 valve. You and your son are going to have a blast building that one back up.

johnny g
I've got an old Alpine flip out screen you're welcome too (it's the previous model to what I've got in my car. Not been used since May 2010, but should be fine!).
