Samurai 20V
Hi Guys. I have a question about the ratio of water to meth for using in WI injection. I have the AEM kit and it says to use a max of 50/50.. I have a friend with a Golf 5 GTi, car has a GT30 turbo upgrade.. He is using the Devils Own system, but his tuner is running the car with 100% methanol. I helped him setup his Greddy EBC this weekend, after two dyno runs the fumes were unbearable, it was burning my eyes... I reckon that its dangerous, the tuner is insisting that the car will make more power with 100% methanol.. I changed the mix to 50/50 and the car is running fine, no timing pull or faults from the ECU. Is there any advantage with 100% meth injection? Samurai 20V
The car burns faster. I actually had another friend that this happened too.. He spent massive amounts of cash on a GT28 upgrade to a Golf 4 Gti, car burnt to the ground cos of methanol...
barneybrendan
i put it neat into the fuel tank to get car through emissions but instead of removing it i left it in as car seemd to be a lot more responsive and felt quicker, down side valve stem oil seals died. Isn't methanol really corrosive to normal fuel line components?
Tricky-Ricky
Isn't methanol really corrosive to normal fuel line components? Yes! quite a few rubber based compounds are very venerable to methanol, its also very corrosive to aluminum, a lot of people think its a good idea to inject it pure, i think its debatable, as granted it burns well and cooler than petrol, i am still not convinced that its a good long term additive, as i am convinced that it need tuning for IE timing change when large quanties are injected. Methanol is corrosive to all the stock components.. And I am sure you need some tuning when using it as a fuel..
Noz
Using water will help for a safer tune as well. If you want to inject more meth I think increasing the 50/50 mix or even 60/40 while increasing the total amount would be the best idea. Whats the point in having water/meth injection and not taking advantage of that safe guard of water cooling the fuel. 100% meth wil make more power, but is the percentage increase worth the wear and tear? What kit have you got mate

What kit have you got mate Its my mates car, Devils own kit but the controller is a Freiling racing..Bit of a botch job to be honest... With 50/50 meth its running 315kw and 509nm atw - Golf 5 GTi with GT30 turbo..
