Swampy442
Bit unusual, needs some work but very cool. And the best bits, 76 quid a year to insure and its tax exempt All it really needs is a full respray, seats retrimmed and the brakes looking at. Powered by the mighty 1.7 litre Triumph engine, 4 speed manual. Ladies and gentlemen, the 1971 Saab
monsween
Slam it with dished minilites (rota rbs) and you will rule the world. LOVE IT

Scott
That's awesome. A fresh coat of paint on the outside, some elbow grease on the engine bay and some work on the inside and that will be absolutely stunning mate. Great buy, look forward to the progress
Rob_Mitchell
Not my cuppa Good luck. Got any do-luck rims you want to sell me to fund the build
Swampy442
Thanks all Slamming is an issue as theres next to no lowering springs about, later model 99s can get a 40mm drop, maybe ghetto it with an angle grinder Rimmage, was looking at Konig rewinds http://www.wheelbasealloys.com/15_Inch_Konig_Rewind_Graphite_Alloy_Wheels__769 Or TR6 steels? monsween
Chopped springs probably won't be the most dangerous thing on that car lol. What are the brakes like? Rota rb are the copy of those wheels and would probably be cheaper
Swampy442
What are the brakes like? Currently frightening, I think the servo is up the swanny, but its got discs all round with 2 pot, opposed piston calipers up front, shouldnt be that bad. mwilkinson
Stick a supra lump in it!! I have no idea if it would fit or work. But seeing as this is a Supra forum it was worth the comment
sdistc
Do I assume this is a proper restoration build, or (he asks hopefully ) some Frankenstein hot-rodded v8?

Swampy442
Thanks very much all, it is a bit special For some reason its also got a freewheel gearbox, a throwback from the 2 stroke V4 96s, apparantly quite a rare find. I have absolutely no plans for any sort of engine conversion, despite Retro Cars cover car being a Saab 99 with a 900 turbo engine under the bonnet lol, I plan a sympathetic refresh more than a bare bones restoration Still got the Aristo to rebuild and finish! Robzki
Now thats cute Good luck I just got me a 70's triumph powered project too loving the simple engineering
j_jza80
That's a cool Saab If you are going with aftermarket wheels, some Ronal Turbos would look amazing on this.
Swampy442
I actually thought about Ronal turbos, but you have VW scene tax Rotas are looking pretty good right now. And thanks
Swampy442
Doing proper manly engineering stuff today, making gaskets lol. Had a water leak from what I later discovered was the water pump so got the gasket paper, did some tracing and cutting Colourtuned the carb mixture and sorted the choke cable, runs much sweeter now. Tried to set the timing but cant seem to find any reference markings. The pulley is marked though, more research required. Still cant work the brakes out, the servo is holding vacuum, the pipework is intact, the (front) calipers are not seized, bit of a head scratcher that one. But its close to MOT time
caseys
Rip Saab (they filed for bankruptcy today)
