printers advice

I just got myself an Epson R300, mainly cause I wanted to print photos.

It also prints CD's.

Only £79 but was dissapointed for the first week as all the photos I printed came out dark, much darker than the screen.

Then last night I searched the web and found that this was common and infact the driver software supplied didn't like windows XP sp2 !

Good old Epson give you shite software knowing that they have a problem, downloaded the updated one for free from their website and all is well.

Great printer, quick, quite and excellent quality prints. Downside is the ink as in all, takes 5 colour and one black at about £12 for Epson. Having used compatable ones before and found them to be fine I've just ordered 8 black and 24 colour (2 of each) for a little over £20

I've fitted a few HP multi-function printers, very good, but again the cartridges are fairly expensive. Downside is their software/drivers is crazy! from memory the installation required 150-200Mb! for a printer and scanner!

The thing with cartridge prices is that the more expensive cartridges generally have the head built into themselves, this way when you change the cartridge you should get top-notch quality again. (supposidly)

The thing is that heads last bloody ages and TBO most things these days are throw away.

After all this stuff about cartridge prices you need to answer some questions...

If you are going to be using it loads, get the cheaper cartridge option, it should save £ in the long run.

If you want a printer for the odd job, don't worry too much about the cartridg price, you shouldn't be changing them as often and the advantage is if you leave the printer for a while and heads clog you can change the whole lot for around £20.

The answer  6 of one and half-dozen of the other. Many will tell you differently though.

Sounds like blocked/damaged heads, replacement heads for printers like canon's and epsons are more than the printer itself (well it used to be)

If a nozzle stops squirting ink it can be damaged apparently due to the high temperatures. The ink acts as a cooler.

If your not using it oftern I would probably go for an HP, not Lexmark IMO, their cartridges are mega expensive.
